The level of uneducated and classless people that place draws is amazing.
What Atlantic Station are you talking about? I've been there many-a-time at night and it's not like that.

It seems that in Atlanta the crime is spread all over.At the end of the day no place is really safe.Crime happens every where you go and at one point in your life you will be a victim of it.
The best you can do is find ways to make your self feel safe in your surroundings and not be in the places you feel unsafe.
If you go to Bowen homes with a Rolex on at 2 in the morning you might get robbed.
If you leave your doors unlocked when you go shopping you may end up walking home.
If you have not watch the news lately "the world is a ghetto" and I rather be here then in Compton where my 60 year old aunt can't where a red scarf because some crips might run up on her with thier fingers twisted asking what set she claims!

Umm keep it where you have an inkling of what is going on. The crips and bloods were dissolved long ago. They even made a rediculous Southpark episode about it. Compton isn't nearly as bad as it once was and I would certianly feel safer walking around in Compton at anytime than a few other places that I shall not mention closer to your home there. Why not try to build a far better reputation for all of the places involved? As you yourself stated, crime is everywhere and can happen to anyone. This is a horrible thread that doesn't speak well of Atlantians at all. I know for a fact that many more good things, people and places exist than what this thread portrays. The whole of ATL and as also stated "the whole world" would become a ghetto if everything represented here were believed by all.

I some what agree with you at the end there but I do have a inkling of what is going on a lot more then you can imagine but my life travels are not of topic so we will leave that alone. As far as the gangs are concerned they are still around and will keep going until people themselves make the actions to show kids that we have alternatives other then violence.
Atl is not all bad and I don't want to give off that feeling at all.I have lived places where I have watch gang violence from my bedroom window so I am qualified to express my feelings on what i see in my area.

Saying Ghetto is what makes this thread uneasy because everyone in the "ghetto" is not as "ghetto" as you think.
Lets talk about why things are going downhill and what can be done to make them better without our great mayors help or should that go in "city ran be not so smart people thread".

I would like to here solutions to some of these problems and ways to go about fixing them, perhaps I could learn something here and find ways to make a more of a change myself with in the community

Lets talk about it.

This sounds great except for one key ingrediant. No matter how much the horrible politicians should often be left out of things, in order to make a city better you actually have to have their involvement or placement of one that will be involved. It has already begun though in your desire to listen and acknowledge the fact that change is needed. How 'bout listening in at the local chamber meetings or participating in the local schools then learning how things are accomplished in your local juridictions then putting together your ideas and presenting them for approval. So that sounds pretty easy but most give up the first time the get told no. Gather support and take it to their (decision makers) door steps. Don't be afraid to become one of the decision makers. Look at the idiots that are already there. While not just anyone can do it you personality and time conflicts can be a b****h it's always worth a shot. If more local answers are needed for your cities conflicts or precise issues are needed to be discussed well then I certainly hope some of the locals jump in if you don't otherwise I guess nothing will change. Not local myself but more than happy to give answers for what I've seen work elsewhere. Best advice is just to get actively involved though. Believe me your presence is noticed.

I love that response and you are right about getting involved in the community in which I have taken the first step to do that.My thoughts about the government is that we give these low IQ monsters to much credit and we need to challenge them. They are only human and do not have all the answers like the people they serve and should allow more community involvement in their decision making.
Do not get me wrong ,I do not want to play the blame game and just point fingers like a misguided child but someone needs to tell these people about themselves sometimes.I'm personally working on not addressing everyone in person with "four letter words"so I can be more effective and less offensive but god is still working with me but I love the people in my community and would like to see great progression in the years to come.

Everyone that comes on here should have some ideas and input for what could work for everyone in this failed system of things.
