Question Need info about GA. small towns

We are from wisconsin, ready to sell the snowmobiles and spend more time hunting, fishing and 4 wheeling, Any help would be great,Looking to move to Georgia.Rural area's only, as we are looking to buy a house and/ or land with at least 10 acres, Would like to be half way between the mountains and the ocean, The internet is only giving us general info. Have tried working with a realtor , but over the net its hard to know which area is best,We have been trying to narrow our search for two years now, and soon it will be time to move, and we are not as informed as we need to be, also we have been trying to find out about laws, as far hunting ,fishing , having animals on your land, in WI. you must have so many acres per horse/ or so many acres to build a bigger house or additions. Thanks

Agusta area? Personally, I'd probably be looking at South Carolina, if I were you. Maybe between Greenville and Columbia. That's about 1/2 way between the mountains and the coast. Being that the mountains are nowhere near the coast, that's a lot of area to cover!

Just looking for place thats only about 2or3 hour drive to the mountains and/or ocean .We have a friend in SAV. but he's not been a great help with other areas, but we have different lifestyles. We don't wanna live in a big town/subdivision . Right now we live in the outskirts of a town of 980 ,its about 5 miles to town, with greenbay being 80 miles away and milwaukee being 35 miles away, we drive 22 miles for work, all we see around us is farm fields and a few houses, which is the same kind of area we are looking to hopefully find In Georgia.

I personally would suggest Effingham County, Georgia, even tho the area is bustling due to urban spwarl in Savannah-Chatham County. Urban Sprawl is where people move from the inner city, to the peace and quiet of the suburbs. However you can still find many acres of land for sale, its best to hope on them quick, because of there fast growing county, acres may be there now but in a couple months, there could be rows of houses sitting on your dream land. ANywayz the area is great for fishing, with its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, and to rivers, that strem off from the ocean.

Even tho the Okefonokee Swamp ( The Largest Fresh Water Swamp in the United States ) is hot right now, do to everbattling fires in South Georgia, the swamp is a great place for camping out, and hunting.

Effigham is also not to far from many miles of forest, you also have access in and out of the Effigham by way of both Interstates 95 which run through many Georgia and Flordia cities, like Brunswick, Orlando, Miami, Jackson, and Miami, along with cities like Myrtle Beach, in South Carolina, there are many other great cities that Interstate 95 run straight through, including New York, and Baltimore. You also have great acces to Interstate 75 which takes you back toward Macon, and Warner Robins, while going through many miles of forest, and great Georgia cities like Stateboro, Dublin, and Metter. The Savannah International Airport is also less than 20 miles away, which can take you anywhere in the world, most flights transfer in Hartsfield-Jackson up in Atlanta.

You are also within 30 minutes of one of the oldest cities in the Nation. Savannah has great attractions from which you can visit and they are listed below, along with may things to do in Effigham County.

Veterans Park of Effingham County
The Georgia Salzburger Society
Welcome to Historic Effingham Society
Mary Khars Warnell Education Center
Savannah Georgia | Hotels | Restaurants | Tours | Real Estate and more in Savannah & Tybee Island, GA
Welcome to the Telfair Museum of Savannah, Georgia
River Street Riverboat Company

ANUTY14HD, do you have school children? If not Albany may be the place you're looking for. Geographically it's ideal. If you like the gulf we're only 2-3 hr drive from PanamaCity, if you like the Atantic coast it's a little farther BUT Albany is far enough away from both coasts for you to not have to worry about rebuilding or moving every hurricane season. Also, if you want big city Atlanta is about 3 hrs north. I-74 is 40 miles east of us and we have several nice highways, US19 & US 82 that come right thru town giving you a nice 4 lane to travel on. One nice attibute about Albany is traffic. On it's busiest day you can get across town in 15 minutes. We have on of the biggest medical facilities within 100 miles radius, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, and if you like the outdoors we have several lakes, the Flint River, and many private fishing ponds close. As for hunting, we have several large plantations in our area that provide some of the best hunting around. They even draw well known celebraties and wealthy people from around the world every year to take part in guided quail and small game hunting aventures. The cost of living is low so you can find a very nice brick home in the $100k range or less. However, if your answer to having school kids is yes, unless you can afford private school you may want to keep looking because most of our public schools are over run with street gangs.

If you like the convenience of Savannah, without living in Savannah and the ocean appeals to you, there are some great outlying areas. Effingham, Long, McIntosh, Liberty and surrounding counties - lots of hunting, fishing, and four wheeling there.

Growing up around here, the issue of animals has always been a local one. My folks have a small piece of land and they have had chickens, goats, pigs, and chickens.

The GA DNR or Agriculture department may have more resources.

If you get 2-3 hours from the ocean, you will be a good ways from the mountains. Are you familiar with the heat and humidity that comes from living near the coastal areas in Georgia. It's not anything like you are used to in Wisconsin. If it doesn't bother you, perhaps somewhere around the lower part of the coast near Brunswick would suit. Good salt water fishing. I don't know about the hunting.

I would stick to trying to find something in the northern part of the state, North of Atlanta, and forget about the ocean. Come down and spend a few weeks just driving around.
