I think most people move to either city because they were either transferred or commuting to/from Atlanta...not because they want to find a bigger mall, better skyline or whatever. If someone was moving to find the best arts, culture, bigger mall/skyline, etc they'd end up choosing a much bigger city than either two. On that note, the bashing is really irritating and should be ceased. It is completely pointless. Just my two cents.

There is a lot of competition between Ga 2nd tier cities, and you will probably need to come visit to get a clear view. After visiting this site, I set my sights on Warner Robins for the schools, but after visiting myself I chose Macon because it just seemed less generic than Warner Robins. Bibb county public schools are less than ideal, but there are a ton of private schools that make up for that. While I do not think that this is a big artsy community, I have found that the down town exceeded my expectations. I did choose to live in North Macon, because of crime statistics, but I have not felt unsafe in the 2 months that I have been here. So, that's my 2 cents....Good Luck!
Limaro,

How about you go back and read the original post. If you are going to add your two cents then perhaps you should try and make it count. The author of this post asked about two cities, not one.
What kind of person chooses a place where they expect to find a "crime infested hell hole"? That, in my opinion, sums up your judgement right off the bat. You expected a crime infested hell hole but came anyways.
The word 'bashing' has came up in this thread several times. Webster says 'bashing' is
"To engage in harsh, accusatory, threatening criticism."
Find that in this thread ANYWHERE. Seriously. If a newly transplanted person asks for others opinions on here, and they simply offer them... there is no bashing present. I have absolutely nothing to gain by presenting my opinion. I knew how yerocal and brenty were going to respond. yerocal thinks Macon is the center of the universe and brenty just loves the Macon malls. There it is, in a nut shell.
The original poster is coming from a proggresive city much larger than anything here in central Georgia. I am not 'bashing' one city over the next because I post actual crime information. Or offer my opinion between the two cities she asked about. We do not all have to agree, but lets be honest and follow the thread as it was authored. It seems some on here are quick to defend their town without answering the original question.
You came on this board, asked questions and got one extreme response or another, and chose a place you expected to be a crime infested hell hole... and yet here you are. The voice of reason I guess.

"Bulldawgfan"
I never said that I thought Macon was the center of the universe, when i post my comments or other posts is only highlighted the positive things happening in Macon" it progression and growth" Just because your comments and opinions of it being a hell hole is not standing don't jump the guns and get angry....
Oh yeah An bashing is exacting what YOU do, "always trying to promote harsh, accusatory, threatening criticism about Macon". Now you have put it out there, Macon has a bit of a Crime problem, THERE you satisfied...But that still doesn't make it a good place to live......Because what city don't deal with crime and a person coming from a city with 1mill +pop I'm sure Macon's little crime don't even compare.

Now Bulldawgfan, since i put the crime issue out here and its been said, KILL it, its getting really old... The poster wanted some reliable info about these two cities and all You have done is provided the same worned/repeated info about Macon's 12 shooting and unique crime... You need to follow the thread as it was authored..........

Lets take a look at what the paper has to say today....
Quote:
Two men arrested in separate Bibb fatalities
Quote:
No substantiation of e-mail that threatens shooting, police say
Quote:
Masked, armed gunmen rob Macon home
That is just today. I plan on being a ying to your yang for as long as you post here... so get used to it. I have the facts on my side, so keep telling me to "KILL" it. For every post you make on some future idea someone wants to build I will post some actual crime stats from the paper. Hows that? The funny thing is... I will not have to archive anything... I can pull this stuff out of the paper daily.

I can just picture it...

yerocal: "Widening of road proposed"

BDF: "Four shootings and three robberies reported today"
This will be fun!

Let's give the whole story, not just the headline...
Two men arrested in separate Bibb fatalities - from car accidents...do no other cities have car accidents??

No substantiation of e-mail that threatens shooting, police say - a quick check of snopes.com will give the same e-mail. I guess the ball pit at McDonald's also has rattlesnakes, the movies theaters have aids needles, and you can't flash your headlights at on coming cars.

Masked, armed gunmen rob Macon home - looking for drugs...again, I guess only Macon has issues with drugs.

Since I last posted...
Quote:
Two robbed in separate incidents; police say cases possibly connected

A Macon man was robbed at gunpoint early this morning while delivering fish to 678 Straight St., according to the Macon police.

The man told officers he was returning to his vehicle at 12:20 a.m. when four masked men wearing all black jumped out of a white Ford Escort brandishing guns, according to a police report.
No need to post the rest... just more of the same. Welcome to Macon.

Bulldawgfan, go show me one city news site for an urban city that doesnt have multiple crime stories. I mean man, you should really give up considering that you either purposely left out OR were so eager to say something negative about Macon that you didnt even notice the "2 Bibb Fatalities" article was concerning car accidents. It kills this guy for any one to say anything positive about Macon.

When it comes down to crime, Macon, Columbus, Savannah, Albany and Augusta have no right to call each other out. All have a good bit, but all still have plenty of nice areas you can choose to live in where it will not be a problem, generally speaking.

Give it a break bulldawgfan! This is ridiculous!!!! Every city has their share of crime!

So Macon has drug problems and ghettos. So does every other medium to large city in the nation! Macon is not that bad in comparison!
