I moved to Mcdonough GA due to my husbands job I am a legal Assistant with a degree and I am having difficulty finding a job. Is the job market that bad here? I can't even find a part-time job. My husbands job is in Atlanta so I was doing a lot of searching in the Atlanta area as well and nothing. I never had a problem finding employment in Florida, just wanted some feedback from the forum. Thanks.

I moved here from NY almost a year ago. I heard such great things about the Atlanta job market and how jobs were plentiful. I never thought that it would take much time to find a job since I have a degree and experience (and jobs were so abundant ) . I was willing to work part-time to start until I could find full time work. It took almost 6 months before I found a full-time job!!! I couldn't even get a part-time position. So, I totally understand your situation. It is very frustrating.

So my advice is to be patient and expect that it may take much longer than you expected. Good luck!

I thought this might be related and someone might be interested in Verizon. They're looking to many positions across Georgia. To see the full list of jobs visit their Verizon Georgia jobs page at https://www22.verizon.com/about/care...00000000002501

The economy has affected jobs in Atlanta as well as all over the country. Atlanta has always been known for having jobs and people have always moved here for jobs. But the collapse of the economy we are going through right now has affected Atlanta jobs. Businesses are afraid to hire because of the economy. Keep looking and be flexible and willing to do other things and you will find a job. Sign up with a recruiter.

Just to put things in a bit of perspective...and I know that some people want to emphasize and accentuate the bad news...unemployment is a lagging indicator in any economic downturn. That means that it is one of the the last pieces of economic news to turn bad and usually the last to recovery.

The thing to keep in mind, independent of the current self inflicted banking crisis, is that unemployment is still relatively low and only slightly higher than it was in 1996, when everyone touted the "great economy" in the US. It was around 5.6 percent then, and it's around 6% now. I know that for those people who are unemployed, things are bad, but it's hardly a "collapse" and remember that unemployment may continue to get worse, even as the broader economy grows and recovers.

If you're haivng bad luck with direct firm employment then try recruiters and specific company temp opportunities. eg Turner Temps would be a great method to network your way into TBS.
