Hello, I will be geting transferred back to Georgia in two months. I will be going to Cornelia. I am married with one small child. I am looking for a small town with sport activities for my son and a nice community to raise my family. I have lived in Athens and it was a little to big for me. We are looking at Cleveland. Is this a good pick? How about Clarksville? Maybe someone has a better suggestion. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Lucky you. That entire area is nice by my own standards. The demographics are pretty much the same in all three spots. I find that Cleveland is strangled due to traffic that goes right through the middle of town. It would be my 3d choice of the 3.

I live in the Cleveland area - and yes the traffic around the square is bad, especially on Fridays. I actually live about 7 miles from Cleveland, 10 from Clarkesville and 3 from Helen. Both of my children attended White County schools. My oldest is now a sophmore at GA St and my youngest is in high school. There are a lot of opportunities for your child to be involved in many different sports thru the rec dept. That is also a good way to meet people. Clarkesville is nice and the housing may be a little more affordable than Cleveland/Helen. Although there are so many foreclosures here, you will not have a problem finding a nice house. Good Luck to you!

Is housing that bad in the area? We were looking at Clarksville and it is a little more affordable. Thanks for the help.

I guess I need your definition of "bad" housing. Cleveland/Helen area is more expensive due to a lot of vacation homes, etc. Our local paper (White County News) had to reduce the font size of the legal section to get all the foreclosures printed. Clarkesville has always been more affordable. The impression that I get of Cornelia is that is kinda run-down. I don't know any one that lives in Cornelia. You might also look at Demorest.

What I meant about the housing is the forclosure rate. I did not mean like a ghetto. We are looking at Clarksville. It seems like a nice place. I have ben looking at the White county newspaper for rental and they are great places for good money. Thanks for the help.
