Florida family relocating (Atlanta, Rome, Cartersville: bank owned, real estate, insurance)

Good Day to all,
We currently live in SW Florida <20yrs>, basically driven out by the HUGE expenses due to the hurricanes <homeower insurance> ect... This is a big step were taking basically starting all over. My husband is a cert. mechanic cars..trucks. desiel. construction equipment ect. He has been a shop foreman for 15 yrs.working in the construction business. We have 3 children whom are homeschooled, and are hoping to get them into a good school system.
We are working with a realistate agent, she knows pritty much what we are looking for, and has told us to check out... Pickens County.. Cherokee County..Forsyth County.. Lumpkin County and Dawason County. PLEASE any feed back would be greatly appricated, for this is a huge step our family is about to take. Thank you all SO much.

So you specifically wanted mountain property? Or just somewhere outside of Atlanta?

What did you tell your real estate agent that you want? If we know that, then we will understand why those five counties were recommended and can offer suggestions and opinions.

Good morning, I should of been a bit clearer <new to all this>. What we seek is a few acres of land, we love the outdoors. The mountains are beautiful, living here in Fla is all flat land. We love to 4 wheel, would like a few horses ect. My husband and me are <somewhat bikers> with that in mind not to worry about older drivers or drunking drivers around every turn. Were easy going people whom just want there <private> place to call home.

In reading the different posts in this forum example <Florida to Georgia> I would like to express myself. When we first moved to Florida things were different, <as in all places over the yrs> . I did not lock my doors.. My kids could play among the neighborhood, we all looked out for one anothers family. Kids answered Yes Sir/ Mamm or No Sir/mamm even if not your own. Dont know how to say that in espanola <nor do I care to learn>. I feel to each there own, but respect one another.. not disrespect what was known.
I still fly my American Flag and my Confederate Flag with pride. Have I had a issue with the neighbors? Some have made comments.. < Tho I was unable to understand them >..As I said we have been her for almost 20 yrs now. We have been through many.. many changes..
My husband worked his ass off for what we have only to loose just about everything due to a work related Injury. We have gone from surving, to just about forclousure on our home. We have tryed to get the so called Goverment Funding programs, sitting hours in lines, unable to even have a conversation with people among us. People looking at us strange because we were asking for help. Only to be Denyed because we or should I say the bank owned our property. As I could bairly understand a word they were saying to us.... Not to menchin the blinding effects there gold chains had on my eyes. <one of them would of paid my electric bill for 6 months>.
So basically what im saying is, Im not looking to move from Florida to Georgia to disturb anyone or anything. Were leaving our 2 older children and our 4 Grandchildren behind <Is killing us>. All I seek is to hopefully live comfortable, have our selfrespect back. Give our younger children the chance to be themself, with out prejudice or shame & have a chance to work for what they want in life. To those whom have been here in Florida as long as we have, they will and do know what im talking about.

Most of us do not consider Floridians the enemy - especially those who are seeking some acreage to conserve from subdivision development (even Johnny Country would applaud that, I think).

I can research, but my information probably won't be better than what you already have because I'm in Atlanta and don't have current knowledge about Georgia mountain living. But several here do!

Give it a little time and keep checking in. Weekends seem to be a little slow here with not as many regular posters online, so don't be discouraged.

I am a native Floridian who moved to Georgia a little over a year ago. I have found that most Georgians accept Floridians who are of the old school and love nature, trees and friendly people. Justifiably, they do not accept those who want to come here and change it.

I am also a real estate agent, but I work with people who love nature, trees and friendly people! If they want malls, Blairsville is not for them!

Anyway, do you know why your agent is recommending the counties that you mentioned above? For my taste, those counties are not far enough away from Atlanta. That's just me talking, but I wanted to be far enough away that my new home would not become swallowed up by Atlanta in a few years.

Probably because they are looking for acreage to keep horses, not a vacation cabin in the mountains.

(FYI, Ms. Lobman sells mountain property farther north and might have missed the fact that you are already working with an agent. The counties you've been told to investigate are fine for horses as far as I know, so don't worry.)

I'd look at Cherokee and Pickens. but that's b/c I'm not familiar with the others. Jasper(Pickens) still has some cheap land.

I'd checkout Calhoun/Adiarsville(I-75) probably best bang for the buck in Adairsville.

Also check out Rome, it's not huge but has more industry/jobs than what I've mentioned and stil far from most city influence. It's close to Cartersville as well.(some jobs) It's more west than north but far enough.
