The City of Decatur is approximately 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta and would meet your criteria but good luck in finding a 4/5 bedroom home in your price range in this area.

You didn't mention employment--an important consideration when selecting a place to live in Atlanta. If your job is located on the NW side of Atlanta, Marietta, Kennesaw, then you should be looking in this area. If you post in the Atlanta forum many posters will explain what the daily commutes from different sectors involve.

The Mableton area meets your criteria. Eleven miles from downtown Atlanta, about a 30 min drive. It is very convenient to everything you would need. I sell real estate and would be happy to provide you with information. I live in the Mableton area and like it very much. Lots of affordable homes.
