Would Love Some Info on Villa Rica
My wife and our 2 young children are looking to move out of Massachusetts (real estate prices are ridiculous) and Villa Rica caught our eye. It seems as though it's not a real big city but also not small enough to be rural. Its a bit bigger than the town we currently reside in but seems as though there are alot of suburban areas to choose from. It also seems as though its far enough away from Atlanta that you're not living in that city environment but also close enough if commuting into the city were necessary. Any feedback, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Villa Rica doesn't really impress me, but it does seem to be a nice growing area. I would check it out if I were you.

For the type of town you are probably looking for (small but not rural) VR is not the place. It is definitely rural. Backward mentality and not very friendly towards 'outsiders' . Either ignorant, low class white and black people or wannabe Scarletts' and Rhetts' (and a few 'normal' ones sprinkled in between).
I would try the other side of the metro area-which side? Anywhere but here.

I really dissagree, ( I do live in Hiram though)
Close enough to Atlanta, good people, (I do not look down on people though) Quiet area, growing but not too fast, A Super WalMart LOL, yea I like rural areas and some people who transplant here have trouble fitting in. I guess I did not.
Mind you this is the south and Bible country, if you go to church it helps in making friends, I also was involved in the BSA for 9 years so I made friends there too. Douglassville is closer to Atlanta and has more to offer, but if you like more RURAL then VIlla RIca is better.
BTW My Brother inlaws brother lives on the other side of Atlanta, Higher taxes, and guess what? The people are the same! I also have friends in BSA from over there and it seems even more religous then over here LOL, this is the South. Seems to me theres been a problem on the east side with teenage sex in the highschools too, there have been stories written about it in the news.

I guess that is one of my major problems here: the mentality that you must go to church to fit in. The world is becoming a much smaller place and in order to get along and change for the positive we all need to become more open and accepting of others' beliefs. Closer to Atlanta, since there is more diversity, that doesn't seem to be as big of an issue as it does out here.
As far as high school sex-out here it is just as bad (if not worse) only it starts much younger (as could be the same almost anywhere). IMO if there are not activities to keep children busy or positive environments in which to express themselves, they will definitely find other ways...
Taxes are more expensive in other parts of the metro area (although Mirror Lake subdivision in Villa Rica has taxes around $3000 per yr) but I would rather pay higher taxes on my home (property worth more) than be in an area that is not worth much (since my home is my biggest investment)!

Check out Hall County, 35-45 miles northeast of Atlanta. We're still considered country, but lots of new subdivisions and we're right in the middle between Mall of Georgia, Outlet stores on 400, Outlet stores in Commerce, Discover Mills, so you'll never run out of shopping. About a 45 minute drive into Atlanta. Also, nearby is Lake Lanier and we're only an hour from the North Georgia mountains.

Villa Rica
I am not sure where some of these folks get their information. I lived in Villa Rica for 2 yrs & before that out in Carrollton for 2 yrs which is about 30 mins up from Villa Rica. Villa Rica is a nice area away from the city of Atlanta. The town has been growing rapidly. Hwy 61 has really grown in terms of stores resteraunts, shops, & it still continues to grow. I lived in Mirror lake community... which is constantly expanding with new houses & stores & schools. It is a community within itself & it is a nice area. Most people that reside in this area is Middle class & up. The homes are from the 150's to the 700's. This community has alot of amenties. I moved here from TX... ended up leaving the area to relocated back to TX but now I am relocating back to Georgia in a few months.... would mind buying a home out there... but the commute to Atlanta is hectic at times but there are alot of back roads from villa rica that you can use to get to atlanta such as hwy 166 & some other back road routes. The people are friendly compared to TX & the crime is not that bad either. Douglasville is the next closest big city near Villa Rica which is about 15 min away...which you can find stores that are not available in Villa Rica.

Ummm....Villa Rica is borderline rural, if not rural! You may want to look into Douglasville.

Villa Rica is fine. It is pretty much what you described that you are looking for. Definitely worthy of your attention. If you want rural, you will like it better than Douglasville.

If I wanted to buy a home with acreage in Douglasville that's not in a subdivision should I look at Villa Rica? I noticed some of the homes I've looked at in Dg'ville on route 5 near 166 seems to be considered more Villa Rica area than Douglasville. Does anyone have any info on the Route 5 area. How does it compare to the Chappel Hills area? Love the Chappel Hills area but think I wouldn't like living in a golf community.
