Moving to Georgia not sure where?
I'll be moving to Georgia to retire from working and don't want to live in or near Atlanta. I'm a sports guy and need to be near golf courses and college sports. How is the area between Winder on the north, Covington on the south, Monroe on the east and Loganville on the west?

Somewhere close to Athens sounds like the place for you. Monroe would probably be good.

Agree, the Athens area might be good. Oconee County on the south side of Athens is rated as one of the best "rural areas" to live. You have full access to shopping in Athens and Watkinsville. Of course UGA is in Athens. GO DOGS! You may want to look around the Lake Oconee area too, some nice golf and scenery. Personally I would stay away from Monroe; it can be a little trashy.

If you love golf, you need to take a look at the Lake Oconee area!! Several developments with golf course(s). Close to Athens for UGA football, about 1 1/2 hrs from downtown Atlanta for other pro sports (altho college football is the passion around here). The lake is great for fishing and water sports, and is not usually crowded (other than 7/4).

I'll be moving to Georgia this summer with kids (15 and 7) in tow. I'm looking at south of Athens (Watkinsville area). Is this a nice area?

A Place to Retire
Ryland Homes has a great community in Powder Springs...you might want to look into it.
I looked into it, the only reason i didn't not buy was because of the distance it was from my place of work. If you are retiring, then work is not an issue.
The guys that helped me was Tom Ash -- he was quite helpful.

I guess you are talking about the inner city limits. I live in Monroe on the border of Loganville, and I think it's absolutely beautiful here. People take care of their property. We have 2 acres on each lot in this subdivision. There is farm land right down the road. It is peaceful here. And if you are into Golf, the Woodlake subdision might be what you are looking for.

Why not live in the spacious Southern Atlantan counties like Monroe, Jackson, Butts, and the county that Morrow is in. They are sports friendly.

I highly reccomend Watkinsville. Michael Stipe and some other off the wall Indy rockers have homes there. Former REM drummer Bill Berry is farming away in Franklin.
