1. The mountain communities north of Atlanta - retirees from Atlanta and FL.
2. The coastal counties of GA.
3. Second tier cities such as Augusta, Macon and Columbus.

in population percentage growth, i'm almost certain valdosta is the fastest growing area outside metro ATL (at least its been reported that way in local publications). we have a lot of people moving out of florida into the area. there was a large influx of retirees after the '04 hurricane season. as for noticeable growth, we have a lot of manufacturing companies in the process of building new facilities, and hotels seem to be popping up everywhere. the non-residential construction sector is booming here right now. the latest BRAC also brought in a lot of families to moody afb, whereas before it was mainly a training base and we had a lot of young airmen moving in and out every 8 months or so. valdosta state is growing rapidly and has a lot of projects under construction and some that were just completed. the student population is growing every year; they announced over 12k students for spring of '08. i remember in fall '01 when i started it was under 9k. because i-75 runs along the perimeter of valdosta, you won't notice any growth (except the hotels) unless you get off and drive through town.

Depends over what time frame and what you consider growth. In the past five years Warner robins and surrounding towns have had explosive growth residentially and commercially. But compared to other GA area, I can't say...

No offense, but I'm really wondering how Columbus compares to Macon? I'm not saying Macon is Heaven on Earth but Columbus...? C'mon now. We need some credit for our improvement over recent years. Macon has really stepped up and there is talk of a Louis Vuitton store and a Saks Fifth opening, according to workers at the new contruction site on Bass Road in the North Macon region in Fall/Winter of 2009 (The ONLY one in the state outside the CITY of Atlanta). Then with the help of Macon's suburbs, Warner Robins and Bollinbroke, the Macon metro area is also coming up. Warner Robins was named one of the best place to raise a family IN THE STATE according to Businessweek ( http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home...Your-Kids-2009). So, basically, this comparison issue really needs to stop because Macon is really not getting the credit its due for. Every city in the state has its own indiviual style and instead of comparing, we really need to bring the cities together to get ideas from each other.

Columbus is bigger than Macon all the way around.
