I am interested in the Marietta area. Does it have a "downtown" with restraunts and shops? What is the housing like? Schools? Parks? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Marietta has a town square with some small shops and restaurants. The square is nice but all the other shopping in the city is all in strip malls. Powder Springs, S. Marietta Pkwy, Roswell st & Cobb Pkwy are very large strips.

The housing in Marietta is a little different. Anything close in town is very low income. It is slowing gentrifying, but it is very slow coming. The outskirts is upper income. There really isn't a middle class buffer between the two.

Marietta doesn't really have any neighborhood parks but Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is on the west side of town. This is very common in the Atlanta area. Most areas don't have many if any neighborhood parks but there are several larger regional parks throughout the region.

Marietta is a very spread out city. The ciy limits are not all that big but about have of Cobb County has a Marietta address. Downtown Marietta is very nice with a truly historic feel. The center of the downtown area is the town sqaure. Concerts and family activities are held in the square thoughout the year. Marietta is a nice place to live fpr the most part.

The westside near Kennesaw Mountain is explsing with the growth a huge subdivisions with home prices starting around $400,000. There is a very laid back and serene atmosphere to these communities. Burnt Hickory Road in West Marietta has some very nice neighborhoods. The people in West Marietta are affluent but are less showy than most well to do Atlanta residents. They are nice people and tend to be very friendly to everyone.

East Cobb is one of Atlanta's hottest suburbs. All of it has a Marietta address, with a small exception on the far east side which has a Roswell address. East Cobb is known for being an enclave for the affluent. It is hard to find a new home under $600,000 and impossible to find one under $500,000. The schools all rank among the best in the state. Shopping is king at The Avenue at East Cobb, an outdoor mall. The area also has many fine dining options. This part of Marietta seems to be completely without need of what the cental city has to offer because East Cobb residents can find it all in their own backyards.

Southwest Marietta is not so nice. The Osborne High School district is to be shyed away from. Crime is high, property values are low, and new development is slow. Osborne has the highest gang rape rate, the lowest SAT score, and the highest pregnancy rate in all of Cobb County.

Most of Marietta proper is filled with small post war homes inhabited by low income families.
