I assume you guys have visited the area? I love it myself but to someone used to city life, they would HATE it. It's slow. You can live on the mountain or in the valley. Most of they guys I worked with lived in Trenton and drove to Chattanooga, 30 minutes on a good day. The land is still pretty reasonable. Have ya'll driven across the top of the mountain? It is just beautiful. Plum Nelly is an address most ppl recognize around here. The old saying is if you live on the mountain, you are plum in TN and nearly in GA, or vice versa lol If you want slow pace and quiet (except maybe a few neighborly dogs) you have chosen well!

Actually, Lookout Mountain is beautiful, especially along the Bluff, and land prices are reasonable up there. The good and the bad is that it's hard to get to Trenton from Atlanta due to the topography. Chattanooga seems like a nice town. The only problem with living in Trenton and working in Chattanooga is why would you ever want to pay Georgia's state income tax when you could just live in Chattanooga and pay no state income tax. I'd recomend living closer to Chattanooga and buying a second home on the Bluff if you can.

Good point about GA state taxes Prichard. I suppose that there are a ton of factors to weigh when considering the pros and cons of the tax situation. For something in the vicinity of Chattanooga (without a state income tax) I would suggest Dunlap or Whitwell. The prices are higher as so many are moving that way but these towns have the same small hometown feeling as Trenton. They are also both nestled in the valley of two mountains.

I live in Canton GA now but I am from Trenton. My brother and sister are still there. The reason you live in Trenton and drive to Chatt. to work is THE SCHOOLS! Trenton is a small town with great schools. If you move over that state line you better put your kid in a private school. Hamilton county schools are not good at all. I haven't done the math but I think tax will be less expensive that 13 years of private school. The most reasonable private school (Chatt Christian) is over $8000 per year per child. If you choose GPS, McCallie or Baylor you are looking ag over $13,000 per year. It only takes 20 min. to get to downtown Chatt (my sister is a nurse at Erlanger Hospital and drives it everyday). The traffic in that direction is not bad at all. Coming into town from the other direction is another story. There a couple of subdivisions there. My brother has his house for sale. A bargain compared to my area. They have 3 beds/2.5 baths with a basement and a garage on a nice wooded lot for about $130,000. WOW. You can't get that in Canton. Don't listen to the negatives--there are more good things than bad there. Let me know if I can help.

Be sure to visit Larry's, Rafael's, and drats... forgot the other buffet place... Very good vittles! However, no real good local pizza places in the town tho'.
Nice small town, beautiful scenery w/ Lookout Mtn to the East, and Sand Mtn to the West [where I lived, in 'bama, and commuted to Trenton]. Negatives, IMHO, was access to stores that had uncommon supplies that may need to fix various implements, etc.; VERY laid back help in the stores; and the traffic near the schools during morning and afternoons... But, the positives of the scenery, small town feel [yes, good and bad w/ that ], the relative closeness to places like 'nooga, Huntsville, Ft. Payne, and even Atlanta was good. Very nice ballfields on the south side of town, if that is of interest.

maybe moving to TRENTON?
We are seriously considering moving to trenton..been there looking at land. We will probably move daughter and 2 grandsons at sometime near us. I am concerned that there are so many registered sex offenders in Trenton. Seems like a lot for a small town.
Anyone have any comments on this? Am glad to hear that the schools are good but it worries me about this. There are 4 pictures missing on these sex offenders. Does anyone know how to go about getting them? If we decide to move there i will want to print out pictures so daughter and grandsons will know who to look out for.
thanks for any input.
