Talking Is there a late back, alternative, more spiritual oriented place in Northern Georgia?

Hi,
I'm moving from Sedona, az to Georgia area.
I want to work in real estate, but like more late back
places.
Are there any places where there is alternative medicine,
alternative places, like spiritual things going on?
Please let me know if there are places or areas I might like.

I also like nature, but also don't mind living in a city.

I think Athens might be a place for you to look into. University of Georgia is there, there is a thriving music scene - R.E.M,. B-52's, Widespread Panic, and others came from Athens. There is a good bit of rural areas and small towns surrounding the city, which has about 100,000 people. It's also only about an hour from Atlanta. I know it's fairly progressive city, but I'm sure Sedona would make it seem like summer camp. Here are a couple of websites...you can look around and see what you think:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Athens,_Georgia - wikipedia page on the music scene

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens,_Georgia - wikipedia page on the city of Athens

http://www.visitathensga.com/media.cfm (broken link) - Convention & Visitors Bureau site...good photos of Athens and UGA

Have you considered Asheville NC? I know it's not in Georgia but it's close and sounds like what you are looking for.

The North Georgia Mountains are strong Southern Baptist. If you are into one of the pagan religions or wicca, I don't think you will find it to your liking in N. Georgia.

Athens is in North Georgia, but not the mountains. It is northeast of Atlanta.

I love Asheville and it is a progressive city, but I think Athens fits the description of what you're looking for better than Asheville.

Athens doesn't have that much of a real estate thing going on. Most of the great deals have been found and capitalized on years ago. Asheville does. Heard a remark from an insider that she was making a killing up there. Yes, and there are far more "hippies" on the street there, too.

Athens is more of a college town, with a good number of alternative folks thrown in.

I agree, Sedona and North Georgia are about as far away in cultural perspective as they are geographically, maybe even more so. You may be in for culture shock. Maybe you should go back and read post from some of the Ga. boys like Johnny Country and others. . .

If the originator of this thread had asked for info on a progressive community in N.C., I would have suggested Asheville. He said he was moving to Georgia, so I suggested Athens...which of course is a college town which by definition creates a liberal atmostphere. It is also a city of over 100,000, so it is not ALL UGA.

Remember, Atlanta and surrounding areas are North Georgia too. It's not just mountains.

I've been thinking about this and, I'm sorry, but I honestly don't know any hot real estate markets in Georgia that wouldn't disappoint you as far as lifestyle requirements. I know Atlanta pretty well and I certainly wouldn't call it laid back anymore. I'll bet you would love Ashland, Oregon, though.

He said he was moving to Georgia ...
Maybe the moderator noticed that the original poster made this same post in Kentucky and Tennessee forums.

(And maybe Utsava's the use of late back was a test to determine how laid back we are. I flunked.)
