Do you have anything in Columbus besides "Fort Benning, AFLAC, Synovus, TSYS, Carmike Cinemas, Char-Broil", Is that all there is to offer, thats all you talk about and its getting really tiresome seeing repost that list, we all get the point Columbus has a few HQ.. So what is still WAY behind Macon, Augusta and Savannah in every category and that just the truth.
Macon with pop (116,000-97,000) and Savannah(139,000) is standing along and holding there own a cities only, if it wasn't for Consolidation Augusta and Columbus would not stack up the way they do, by being consolidated it make these cities size and pop appear to be larger than what it is.... Before Augusta Consolidated it had only 47,000 in the city limit and after the change it jump to 190,000. The same with Athens (40,000) before, it is smaller than Albany with pop (74,000) but because of its county/city is combined, on paper it appears larger with(106,000)after the change.
Let be realistic here guys............. So just think if Macon is running with the other second tier now just think what would happen if the Macon/Bibb consolidation is approved and warner robins combines back with Macon metro the city of Macon, City limits would increase to 255 sq miles and pop to 160,000 and the metro would return to the third largest in the state.... and may just surpass Augusta Metro if the Commuter project is completed as well Columbus little wishes for BRAC 35,000 if it ever happen........

Answer me this...... Why is Macon losing so many people every year and to be honest with you I live in Marietta, so I wouldn't care how slow Columbus seem. You act like Macon is NYC or something...get real. The truth to the matter is that everytime I read something about Columbus, its how its a nice community to raise a family(Macon wan't even in the top 100) and has a good job outlook because of BRAC and KIA. Macon, on the other hand, I hear about the crime and the corrupt government.
Out of the 2nd tier cities and I have visited all of them. Macon is the one that I wouldn't want to live in. You guys act you hate the fact when someone says something nice about Columbus, don't get mad. It's clear to me that Savannah, Augusta, and Columbus are the next three cities behind Atlanta. Athens will probably be fourth because they have like 115,000 people and I don't care if its consolidated...Bibb county doesn't want to consolidate with Macon..its too corrupt!!!

Athens is Not even comparable with Macon, it should be more compared with Columbus since they have about the feel and environments, oh wait i think Athens is a little ahead of Columbus too.

Those companies trump anything Macon has. Macon has no HQ's of any kind! The things you mentioned no way compare. It's fact. Quit trying to justify it man. When it comes to population, any way you put it Columbus and Augusta are bigger! Get over it man! Why don't you believe 35,000 people are moving to the Columbus area? There is $3 billion worth of new construction on Fort Benning right now or will be in the next 2 years. Why would the army put in all that infrastructure if they were not preparing for 35-40,000 new people!!!!!!!! You seem so jealous for some reason. All you do is want to argue why Macon is better than every other city. When someone shows you something that makes Columbus and Augusta better than Macon you freak out.

Columbus has been the most progressive city outside of Atlanta since the Olympics. Columbus has had excellent leadership for the last 12 years and that's why things get done here. If you want examples I will be glad to give them.

Exactly I'm going to always defend Macon we someone posts untrue statements. Macon do have a copule of HQ they may not be huge companies. there is the Georgia Farm bureau and More. Even though these companies are not HQ in Macon there Regional Operations are just as large and employees just as many as the HQs in Columbus do. Macon has Robin AFB less than 15 mins aways.. and You are right Columbus and Augusta do have larger pop THANKS to Consolidation...... Macon/bibb county has been developing there infrastructure for years and still are preparing for all the growth in the area, even though the pop of the city it isn't growing, Bibb and Monroe county are because of so much of Macon's development is crossing over the city and county lines which is technically still Macon. Theres zoning disputes going on right now between bibb and Monroe counties because of so much development in the area and lot tax revenue at hand. You always talking about what Ft Benningis doing what is Columbus doing?..... because it seem that Ft Benning is the only thing keeping Columbus a float, because its sure not the HQ because if it was it would be Number 2 in the state after Atlanta. BUT ITS NOT. Augusta is and its has no Major HQ just like Macon, only Regional Offices and it still surpassed Columbus as Macon has too without 200k pop and HQs. Augusta and Macon are the most progressive of the 2nd tier cities right now with, growth, infrastructure, location, shopping/Dining, over 700,000 trade area pop, state of the art medical serves, interstates access and etc. and Savannah is for hot for Shippings and tourism....What is Columbus, nothing but AFAC,Sysouvs, Carmike and a pop of almost 200,000 thats feel like you in a city the size of Valdosta or Albany.......and if it wasn't for Ft Benning it would be a sad case..... You are depending the Govt to bring grow that just like winning the lottery 1 out 1000 change to win because they change like the wind and nothing is set in strong with Govt.... Jealous not of Columbus...maybe Atlanta then i may agree......

Columbus is #2 in the state when it comes to HQ's. You act like Aflac, a Fortune 500 company, is a mom-and-pop business. It is now one of the most recognized companies in the world. Macon's companies combined probably don't create an economic impact that large. Columbus is blessed to have these large corporation which do a lot for the city. Columbus is also blessed to have Fort Benning, one of the world's largest military bases. Columbus beats Macon in everything right now and will definitely do so for a long time. I agree Macon has more retail development going on, but as a developer, I would be scared to death to be developing something in this market. Macon will see a lot of closing in 2009. It's way oversaturated right now.
What company in Macon is remotely the sisze of Aflac, Synovus, TSYS, Carmike Cinemas, etc? There isn't one and you know that's the truth. Quit trying to make Macon something it isn't!
