Exactly. All these that act like Texas is immune, I would like to see where they are getting that from. Lots of friends here in construction business and it is SLOW. Lots of friends in sales (like me) -- deathly SLOW. Layoffs here galore as well.

Ga is cheap to live in as the taxes are low. In towns like mine though that backfires. Columbus has very low property taxes therefore our schools and law enforcement suffer.

After moving around as much as I have I think it is uncommon to find very many places that are truly cheaper than near about any other place to live with only a few exceptions of places that really do have a high cost of living. Every where that I have lived NE, SE, MW & W from cities like ATL, CHI & NY to.... I think the smallest was Ocilla, GA and even though the money amounts changed and made things feel like they were going to be more expensive; they all have averaged about the same on a monthly expense ratio.

I've been able to keep a home and car that belonged to me or at least the payments did and lived basically the same with ample entertainment in every location with very little change in cost. HON, HI & Ocilla, GA were actually the 2 most expensive.

I was born and raised in Athens, GA and two days after my high school graduation I moved to San Diego. I loved Athens, but felt (even though a large city with a great college) that my family would be all in my "business". I see my brother facing this and I have had a great time visiting and living other places.

I find it interesting how many people have stayed that did nothing but talk about leaving Athens, but it is a great little city, I'm just not the small city person...I like the BIG cities!

FYI I'm in my mid 20's and do know from first hand that although the statistic is true it still shocks me a little
