I agree!
"I-3 is far from shovel ready"
"I-3 is not on GDOTs priority list"

Neither one is shovel ready. Neither I3 nor I14 have any dedicated funding and despite what some people on here might think these 2 proposed interstates are not included in the stimulus bill. What Georgia should have done was build the Savannah River Pkwy and Fall Line Freeway as true limited access expressways. They could still retrofit these roads to interstate standard with interchanges... there is a proposal to do just this with GA 316 between Lawrenceville and Athens. I3 will never get built with the route going through the smokey mountains... that will never fly, especially with Democratic congress and President more sympathetic to environmental groups.
If either of these interstates ever do get built, we are talking about decades into the future.

My wife and I are moving to georgia from north carolina. Were looking at Savannah & Augusta also. What we are looking for is a nice, safe upper middle class area in the 275k to 300k range. Would Augusta or Savannah be a better choice for us?

Both cities are quite different. Augusta is going to be similar to the NC Piedmont...Savannah is a coastal city. If you are Beach and Seafood person then you will probably prefer Savannah. Housing in Augusta is going to be cheaper. Savannah is a major tourist detsination.. it is going to have a better dining and nightlife scene. Augusta is going to over more of the typical suburban lifestyle.

I just wish it was more like that every other day of the week.. People need to get in the habit of going downtown more than just one day out of the month. I don't know what could help.. maybe have smaller events planned for the other weekends to get ppl coming downtown more frequently. The frequency is what's going to get more businesses in downtown. A restaurant can't make its money from crowds just one night a month. There is no reason why downtown Augusta can't be as busy every Friday and Saturday night as it is on First Friday.

That's one of the purposes for having special events and festivals...attracting people to an area, like a downtown, that wouldn't normally go there. Many times, once people get there for the special event they will see or exeperience something that will draw them back in the future. These events are meant to promote downtowns or other areas, not just to draw a crowd for that day/weekend.

But this doesn't seem to be happening... First Friday has been going on for 8 years now... and its still a struggle to get ppl downtown the other nights of the month.. its as though ppl just wait for First Friday to go downtown..because thats the only time there is a festive atmosphere and the crowds. I think the idea of First Friday was good, but we need other things to get ppl in the habit of making going downtown a habit.. making it a destination for dining, nightlife.. and yes.. even shopping.
