Default Southland Homes

Anybody here used had a home built by Southland Custom Homes? How was your experience? Did you have your land purchased before you decided to go with Southland homes, or did you let them assist you in finding land?

Hubby and I are considering having a home built by them. It appears that they have plans available in our price range. If applicable, what was your experience like? Would you recommend? Southland Custom Homes - Custom Home Builder in Georgia

The real question becomes is it a custom home or a cookie-cutter plan?

In a custom home, such as the one we built, it was because the "custom builder" wouldn't do as requested.

Ask them the following questions:

a) Will the wood trim will be painted white or natural varnish;
b) Concrete block or poured concrete walls/ICF's;
c) Laminate or real hardwood floors;
d) Vinyl window frames or wood
e) E-glass windows or chemically treated;
f) Electric baseboard or hot water heat;
g) Electric stove or gas;
h) 1/2 rock or 5/8 all around;
i) Masonite, Corian, Granite or Marble.

In any or all of these questions - if they answer the first option instead of the second, they are NOT custom builders.

Other questions you should ask - as I do custom work (and no, not logs):

- are the subs licensed for that area?
- plastic crown molding or real wood?
- will the foundation exceed code?
- will the foundation be waterproofed?
