Well all of us blue collar working locals really hope so. There are people that moved here years ago for various reasons from other states and are getting sick of all the Floridians coming up here and taking over. Imagine what the natives feel like whats happening to their once Mtn Town. Every where you look you see real estate agents and signs. Many of the agents are from Florida modernday carpet baggers if you will. Their changing this place for the worse and just trying to make a quick buck. North Georgia is changing into North Florida and a lot of people dont like it. Blue Ridge was a really great place but now theres really no North Georgia left its just a development now all the charm is getting sucked away by Greed.

The land owners in Northern Ga. sold their property to the highest bidder. I am not one that likes developers or developments. But to "blame" Floridians for overdevelopment is ridiculous. To live in resentment against a group of people from a particular state is silly. Get over it and if you don't like it then try to do something about it before it's too late rather than complain about it and resent people.

Us "Floridians" are just getting you Georgians back for what you people did to our precious Ft. Walton Beach and Panama City. Pittiful, just pittiful!

My husband and I are from Mississippi and looking to buy a second home in either the Ellijay/Blue Ridge area or in Big Canoe. Any comparisons or thoughts on these two areas? How have real estate values held up in those locations -- especially Big Canoe since it was developed some time ago?. We will be over looking again in a couple of weeks so any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I think it would be a gread idea to leave the Floridians alone and ANYONE who comes to North Georgia that helps your property value go up, who brings commerce and value to the North Georgia mountains. The North Georgia mountains now represent "diversity" a place where everyone can live and co exist. We just bought our beautiful place in November and live here on the weekends. We were drawn to Blue Ridge because of it's beauty and the large gay LGBT community that is moving here now. There is no lack of charm and from what we can see, no signs of greed. We extend our arms to everyone to come explore and live in the North Georgia mountains.

My husband and I have a second home in The Georgian Highlands. We are hoping to make that a permanent home in the next couple of years. This development is pure, natural mountain homesites -- no golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools. Just mother nature at her best. People are friendly, too! We have been spending weekends up in the Jasper-Ellijay area, with trips to Blue Ridge, for the last 4 years. Yes, there is growth, but it's not all bad. They now have a hospital with future plans for additional medical facilities. This is a good thing for those wanting to retire in the area!

I have to laugh i have been looking at blue ridge for a year now there are over 7000 homes for sale in the area and yet since jan 58 homes were sold and the mls climbs eveyday. These builders that keep building new are going to shoot themselves in the foot just watch prices will drop as the supply keeps going and I hope prices drop like a rock for the local people they are the ones getting screwed 400,000 for a 1500 sq ft cabin last time I checked building was 100 to 120 a sq ft.As said I am looking two buy there but there are plenty of homes to buy and I do not need to cut into more woods to build a home there are plenty of dummies that bought and know seem to be choking look at all the new homes built and they are up for sale in less than 2 years seems like alot of people live for the het of the moment. And you also have the person that paid 200,000 and now wants 400,000 in 2 years last time i checked HOUSING PRICES WENT UP ON AVG 3 TO 5 PERCENT A A YEAR BUT LETS THANK THE SUBPRIME SECTOR FOR LETTING PEOPLE BUY A HOUSE FOR 750,000 MAKING 55,000 A YEAR I COULD GO ON AND ON .NOT TO MENTION THE APPRASIL PEOPLE COMING SAYING THEY WERE PRESSURED.ASK LOCAL PEOPLE HOW OVER VALUED THINGS ARE.You have to be a complete idiot to buy right now and pay what some are asking with the exception of lakefront property which you will always pay thru the nose.Sorry had to vent
