Hey Sonny,
I am a grown adult, and if I want to buy alcohol on Sunday I should be able to. And no, I don't want to plan ahead. And by the way, why did you choose Sunday? Why not Monday or Thursday? Shouldn't you strive to uphold the Constitution of the United States? Like the part about seperation of church and state. Let the people decide.

agrees 100%! Thank God 70% of the residents of Newnan got smart and approved alcohol sales on Sunday. Maybe now restaurants will come here above the caliber of O'Charleys...

Elves,

If the residents of the city of Newnan can vote to approve Alcohol sales on Sunday, why is it Sonny's fault you can't buy Alcohol where you live?

You can dislike Sonny if you want, that is your choice (although I would say it because he is a conservative Republican and happens to go to church on Sunday, thus not Monday or Tuesday -- thus the blue laws that have been on the books for decades and a vestige of a southern outlook on life) but at the least post a responsible post.

If residents of a particular city or county have the right to vote alcohol sales on a Sunday, than it is in no way Sonny's fault. Blame your own fellow residents instead.

For the record, to my knowledge, sales votes only allow a local community to serve alcohol in restaurants. Stores are still not allowed to sell. This is the controversy - not that places like Applebees can or cannot sell - communities can vote on that. It's that stores (liquor stores, grocery stores, etc) still cannot sell regardless of how they vote.

Sorry, Saintmarks. I really enjoy your posts, and you seem to be a great guy.

That being said, I could not agree more with the OP. Not only is Boss Hogg a moron, he is also an incompetent boob. This man alone has done more damage to our great State than any single person in history, IMO. I can't WAIT for his term to be over.

I would actually like to start a recall campaign, but sadly we have more idiots that seem to like him than we do enlightened people that know how to pick up a newspaper.

It is waaay past time to get rid of this law. Georgia is one of only 3 states that still have this on the books. Hopefully Perdue will be gone soon and we will see this law repealed.

Is the law dumb? Yes. Do I care? No.

I buy it on Saturday and for everyone trying to turn this into state vs church there's plenty of non-bible states with equally dumb liquor laws.

Pennsylvania - have to buy at a 'State' store.
Colorado - only 3% alcohol in beer sold at grocery stores

Well that is "ONE" good thing about Columbus. While I was at CSU, I would just drive over to Phenix City and get my beer on sundays.

I moved to Texas soon after Sonny became governor so I have to admit I haven't had the local coverage to know exactly what he is doing or not doing as if I had been in Georgia. My biggest beef with him (and I have written about this on another thread on the topic) was immediately cancelling the outer perimeter. The argument that it would induce sprawl to build a freeway is total ignorance IMO because the area sprawls without freeways. A closer in outer perimeter should have been done years ago, say from Marietta to Roswell to Norcross to Lawrenceville and on around in an arc. Can't do that now, too built up and the NIMBYs would have a fit.

On the subject of alcohol and Sunday sales, I am old enough to remember no sales of most any thing on Sundays, so this vestige of old south bible belt culture doesn't disturb me. Just buy the dang stuff on Saturday if it is that important to your lifestyle.
