Maybe Columbus is the second addition! Mobile, Al to Columbus to Macon/Warner Robins. I think it is a great idea to start a Hi-Speed rail system.

where's the head-banging-a-wall emoticon? << back atcha

are you telling me all those tiny towns it will pass through on the way to the coast were chosen also because of their need for high speed rail? the target was atlanta; macon just happened to be there. the comment was made for the purpose of settling a debate as to why its going through macon and not columbus.

Putting the profitability of the entire project aside for this particular question, why do you think it would be a good idea to have high-speed rail between those particular cities? What purpose do you see it serving, and how do you think they will ever come close to even breaking even on that line?

1.Robins AFB is the largest employer in GA, and believe it or not, there are several people that commute from Atlanta to WR.
2. All the sports/major concerts/Zoo's/Airport are located in Atlanta.
3. There is already rail tracks laid for these areas.
HWY 75 is a heavily travels highway and this would alleviate traffic.
There are already shuttles that run from WR to Macon to Atlanta, several times a day, every day of the week. Those are a few reasons it would serve.

No, I would say the same thing. Fat chance. Most of that money will end up north of the Mason-Dixon Line where mass transit is actually used.

Sorry KerryB, I couldnt find a bigger one at the time.

Im amazed that Augusta didnt get no love in this plan. Its right in between ATL and Columbia. I think Ga is going to be east-coast-SoCal without the forest fires.

The true answer is, there's no reason at all to build a line though Columbus if you look closely at the map a line is already proposed to run from Atlanta to Birmingham down to Meridian and over to Mobile. It would be a waste of money to build a second line though Columbus if there's no significant reason to do so. On the other hand Macon was chosen mostly because of three reason stated by (Silverspank) and it's centralized location. Also Macon is working to grow its airport and hopefully served a reliever for Hartsfield, if so commuter rail would be even greater utilized sense the same existing rail line for the proposed commuter train, runs direct to the DT Terminal station which houses(greyhound, public service transportation and soon commuter rail station) and down to the Middle Ga Regional Airport. So its just like a puzzle all the pieces fitting together perfect; location, Interstates, Terminal Station, Airport and Rail all coming together at one point.

Did anyone notice what year this map is from? This project or even a portion of it will take decades to complete and money from our pockets.
