Default Moving from Indiana to Georgia! Please Help!

Hello. My husband and I and our three small children will be moving to Georgia in the near future. We have no family there but do have a few friends! We are looking for a smaller, clean town somewhere near Macon with good schools.

My husband currently works in law enforcement and will begin his job hunt soon.

I have a few questions as well. We have never moved out of the state and I'm unsure how long I should begin planning. How far in advance to I begin the house hunt? Job hunt?

Do you have any helpful tips on moving out of state?

We will be selling our furniture here and buying new when we arrive in state!

Thanks!

I'm not an LEO, and I don't know how that job market is going overall, but the GBI, GSP, counties, and many cities are cutting back right now and laying off due to budget issues. An out of state LEO also has to get POST certified before most GA agencies will hire him.

I would suggest you determine where the potential jobs are located and what obstacles exist to getting hired before you move. Once you've done that, then you can judge where to move and when. I wouldn't move without a job or assurance of a job. Unemployment is now almost 9% here and not getting any better in the short term.

Well I don't know about the law-enforcement job market but from all the crime everyone says Macon has it should be a job in high demand (or not depending on how you look at it) - ha ha

But seriously, I am currently living in Hoover, Alabama but I am from Illinois - I have only been living here since last summer. My family & I (myself, hubby, and three children) are moving to Gray, Ga very soon. (North of Macon) I have been searching for a long time on where to go, due to where my husband will be working we had a limited area. I am finding very quickly that good schools are not easy to find in GA - I am hoping that we are going to be happy with the schools in Gray (Jones County)

Anyway, I just thought I would add my two cents for now and I can add more info as I discover more. Good luck with your decisions!

I'm sure he could get on with Atlanta fairly easy. It's a good commute up 75 from Macon and the Dept. isn't the greatest but they did have the best starting pay in the state awhile back. I'd hate to send you in the wrong direction as far as an LEO position though, so I would advise you to visit the forum over at officer.com. It's a busy forum and has a Ga section, good luck.
