Default Relocating to Oconee County ?'s

My wife and I are considering a huge move and have been in the planning for quite a while.

We are from Northern California, Christian, Conservative and want a new place to call home. Watkinsville and Cumming, Georgia, have been the two towns we have focused on the most (within the state, we are also considering the Franklin/Brentwood area of Tennessee). I have posted quite a few questions in the past but have had very little response.

I am concerned about "fitting in". We want to blend in and become part of a community for what it is and not move in to change things. We do not have the "elitist" attitude or the "bling" that many Californians seem to take with them when they relocate.

I was just wondering if there are any recent transplants to either of these two areas that may be willing to share their experiences.

Thanks in advance.

If this is the case, you'll have no problems. Just get ready for some good natured ribbing (which you can deflect if you can make a good tri-tip....).

I can handle "ribbing" all day long. Your post cheered me up, thank you!

I am assuming you are asking for more comments to your post in '07? The reason for the bump today.

The Watkinsville, GA community fits your requirements very well. The three county area is truly heterogeneous With people from all over the world living side by side. In my community alone (we sit astride the county line) across the street and behind our homes lives family's from England, China, California, Ohio, Canada and Michigan. Yet it still retains the local flavor of the South.

I have posted a few questions over the past but have had very little response. This site is a great tool and while I have searched the archives, I have found very few posts about the Watkinsville area (I assume because of it's smaller population). So yes, I bumped to try and keep this search alive hoping to find a person that is willing to share their relocation stories good or bad.

This will be a big move for us. Not only will we be moving our family but a business too.

Thanks for the post, that's good news!
