Default Which will be the first Georgia City to lose their enclosed mall?

Between Augusta, Savannah, Athens, Macon and Collumbus, which will lose their mall first?

As the new lifestyle centers evolve which major mall will be the first to go leaving a larger city without an enclosed mall. Augusta Mall seems to be in better position to survive and compete with the new lifestyle center and Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah is the most indangered as downtown shopping is taking over and its mild climate makes outdoor shopping more appealing. How are the Macon, Georgia Square, and Peachtree Malls faring. Has crime increased in these malls? are stores moving to lifestyle centers here?

Well Augusta has already lost a major mall.. The Regency.. I don't see the Augusta Mall going anywhere. Augusta, Macon and Columbus, Athens, and Valdosta all have one regional enclosed shopping mall a piece, and I think they are all capable of still supporting one mall. You may see one of the smaller, older shopping malls in Atlanta close doen.. perhaps Greenbrier.

Although Macon Mall has lose some stores due the economic down turn, i don't think Macon is going to lose the Mall, I spoke via email with John Bemis- Director of Leasing and Development for Jones Lang LaSalle the company that manages the Macon Mall said they are working very hard to improve the merchandise mix, unfortunately in the current economic environment retailers are facing very difficult challenges and stores are being closed across the country. Jones Lang LaSalle and the team at Macon Mall are continuing to strive to provide more shopping options. I there were looking at what the AugustaMall did to help it compete with the Shoppes at River crossing but due to the Economic down turn the plans were postponed. I sure around 2010 we will see lots of improvement at the Macon Mall.

Why do you think that? This is how it always start. Another retail development gets built and the retailers move. Then it starts going downhill from there. Trust me. I've seen it happen here in Greenville.

Newtown - next time you talk to them, ask the to fix the leaking skylights!

I'd hate to see the Macon Mall close since it once was a regional shopping destination, but when the previous leasing agent let anyone with a buck open a store, they lost many potential customers. I think we decided the Mall was ending was when the fish place opened where Atlanta Bread Co. once was...just what I want when shopping, smelling fried fish!

They also went down hill when the MPD moved their substation from over by Sears. Not sure what the MPD actually did at the Mall, but them leaving was the beginning of the end.

Is the Macon Mall listed on Dead Malls .com yet?

What other retail development opened that stole tenants from Augusta Mall? Augusta Mall killed Village at Riverwatch. That's why it's not getting built.
