Wink Hotels in Madison

Hey All!
Coming down to Georgia in October for the UGA-LSU game and since there's no way in heck we'll get a hotel in Athens, we thought it would be nice to stay in Madison. Which hotel would you recommend? Nothing too expensive.please....

You can read hotel reviews on the major travel sites...Trip Advisor, Travelocity, Expedia, etc...

Yeah, I have..but most of the reviews are quite old...I guess what I really want to know is if that area of Madison is safe...

I suppose any town has a 'bad' area but it is hard to believe there would be much crime anywhere near Madison. Somebody will know.

Most of the hotels in Madison are around exit 114 just off I-20. If you are looking to stay in downtown Madison, there is the James Madison Inn or Brady Inn, or for a little further out the Southern Cross Ranch.

We've stayed at the Comfort Inn in Madison a couple times in the past & are going back this April. We love shopping in the little shops; the Downtown area is beautiful. The Comfort Inn has great waffles for continental breakfast and we think it's reasonable!

I often go to Madison for the home tours from about an hour away in Roswell. I always stay the night. I used to stay at the Hampton Inn. They are all the same and always a good, safe bet and in this town it's no exception.

HOWEVER, I then found an even better deal at The Quality Inn of all places. The prices are cheaper and they have the same amenities... fridge in room, nice linens, very clean, (and I think a microwave but I really can't remember). I've stayed there 3 times now and will again when I need a budget place. It's recently been remodeled - don't let the boring exterior deter you, it's nice inside for the less than $70 price point. Plus they allow pets if that's a consideration and it's in walking distance to The Cracker Barrel restaurant. It's about 1-2 miles driving to downtown Madison so it's perfect. And it has breakfast included - not a wait-service, but hey, I enjoy whatever is thrown in with the room price!

If that budget price is less than you had in mind, consider the Brady Inn B&B. It's fab and includes breakfast too.

I was able to get a hotel in Athens, several years ago, only two weeks before a Tenn game. I recommend giving it a try. You also might want to check out Commerce, it is a lot closer. Plus, there is the new hotel in Watkinsville that just opened last week.
