My son is stationed at Fort Stewart, and he and his wife live in Richmond Hill just south of Savannah.
My wife and I are thinking of moving from TX to GA for our retirement. We don't want to live right next door to my son, but we'd like to live within an hour's drive. So, we're just wondering about places to retire in the Savannah area? We need to keep costs down as much as possible. Our 3200 sq ft home in TX is paid for and worth about $250,000. We plan to sell it and use that money to buy another home wherever we move. What will that buy in the SAV area? We're willing to live in a semi-rural to urban areas. I also want to live near an airport since I am a flight instructor and plan to continue that as long as I can. I know there is a flight school at SAV and there are small airports in Statesboro, Vidalia, Jessup, and Hinesville. Recommendations? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks, FlyTeach |

Flyteach,
You could easily live in and around Richmond HIll, and find a decent home for under $200K. Not in Richmond HIll, but in Effingham County (Springfield, Rincon, Guyton...which are all small towns, but up can coming like Richmond Hill has done), or Statesboro...Hinesville is small, but right at Fort Stewart. GOOD LUCK!! Last edited by Jammie; 03-29-2007 at 11:38 AM. Reason: ad |

A little more than an hour away but I would suggest Brunswick/St. Simons Island or Hilton Head, SC and any of their surrounding areas as my favorites. I do not feel that you should any problem getting what you are looking for closer in if you just prefer. Brunswick/St. Simons and Hilton Head just seem to be more prosperous and growing in property values better.
