There was an agreement called the U.S. Constitution that came after the Articles of Confederation that you might want to look into. To state certainly that secession was legal is not correct. There has been a diversity of opinion over the issue for more than a century. Ultimately it would have to be decided by the Supreme Court, but it has never come before them.

Thanks you for telling the truth and putting a end to the BS excuse of only 5% of Southern-Whites owned Slaves so therefore the Confederate War wasn't about Slavery. The Confederate War had plenty to do with maintaining the Status Quo and social/financial status of whites in the South...and when Jim Crow Laws Jim Crow laws - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia were enacted shortly after the Civil War when newly freed Blacks were doing fairly well for themselves the Status Quo was maintained throughout the South and unleashed a reign of terror upon it's Black Citizens well into the 1960's.

Please don't ascribe ignorance to people who dare to challenge your romantic fantasy about what happened. It was neither noble nor romantic and got a bunch of good people on both sides killed. The other part that conveniently gets left out of the romantic fantasy is the miserable history of violence and racism that persisted for 100 years after the rebellion was extinguished and the evil of slavery put to rest.
Euphemisms? You mean like "civil war" (sic) and "rebellion"? Give me a break. And, just because you've read about a subject, does not mean you've read the truth - only the author's opinion and spin. You need to look up the term civil war. What happened here from 1861-1865 does not fit the definition in any form. The US invaded the CSA because of power and money. It was fearful of the South's political power in Washington, but more importantly, it was jealous of and fearful of the South's enormous wealth and growing influence on the world stage- remember King Cotton? According to the 1860 US Census, 50% of the USGNP came from just FOUR Southern states. If the North had REALLY cared about the plight of the slaves, the US gov't would have instituted some sort of a phase out/buy out plan with the South a decade earlier to wean the US economy off of slave labor and modernize agriculture. After all, Northern shipping interests had made hundreds of millions of dollars selling slaves to the South, legally and illegally, right up to the start of the War. With regard to the "violence and racism" that existed after the War: this was a direct result of the North blaming the South for the War and of using slavery as an excuse to destroy the Southern economy and infastructure. Unfortunately, blacks in the South were used as pawns and scapegoats by whites on both sides. Slavery has always been the "red herring" that the North has used to deflect attention away from its atrocities against the South.

Very good point...

The "truth" on certain topics- this one included- is relative. Some cites for what you posted would be wonderful.

Meaning what? If you have something to say about GA that is a bit less cryptic, out with it.
