Interesting - thanks for answering my question.

Not sure if you see the same TV ads for Chattanooga that we do, but I really like them.

One shows a guy kayaking into his hotel lobby from the street!

Chattanooga has been very smart in marketing itself to metro Atlanta.... 2nd tier cities in Georgia should take note of what Chattanooga has done. You never see ads for Augusta, Macon or Columbus on Atlanta TV.

Actually, I notice a LOT of ads for Asheville, Chattanooga and Savannah on TV all the time.

On MARTA, the Golden Isles/Jekyll Island have LOTS of billboards that state "Come Coast a while, Atlanta!"

Some places certainly do "get it."

Yes, Savannah has embarked on an aggressive marketing campaign as well as the golden isles.. Asheville markets itself nationwide.. I believe I have seen nationwide ads for Savannah in distant cities too.
I mean the stepchildren... macon, Columbus, and Augusta.. these cities always complain they don't get enough attention, yet they do absolutely NOTHING to market themselves.
I remember not too long ago that downtown Chattanooga was a virtual ghosttown.. now they have turned their downtown into a major tourist destination of the southeast region.

Absolutely!

When I was young, the place was an industrial dump. You could not even see the city from Lookout Mountain back then.

An amazing turnaround, and a great City overall.

I agree. I worked in downtown Chattanooga about, oh, say... 12 years ago or so on each of the TVA buildings and some at the hospital (UTC I think). They had just started to really put some effort into revitalizing the riverfront and downtown area. New convention center, upgrades to the hospital, all around urban renewal of the city. They have done it well I must say! I wondered about the aquarium but it seems to have paid off for 'em. They got a kids type museum down there too, don't they?

Never heard of that one, but colored text is a relatively new development on the internet as a whole.

Well, on one board I visit they have used blue text to indicate sarcasm for several years now. I have just recently seen it used on another board so I thought I would... uh... you know, man... get hip with scene (). I may be old in years (tomorrow is my birthday), but damn it I am trying to stay young at heart!!

From here on out I am gonna use blue text when I really do not mean it.

I'd pick Savannah, given its proximity to the ocean, historic charm, beautiful live oak trees, squares, and overall ambience.

Metro Augusta is nice in Columbia County, particularly Evans.

The northside of Macon is okay.
