Unemployment rate drops in March for Macon, Warner Robins areas
For the first time since May 2008, the monthly unemployment rate dropped in March from the previous month for the Macon metropolitan area.
The preliminary rate for the Macon area was 8.6 percent in March, down from a revised 9.1 percent in February, according to a Georgia Department of Labor news release.
The March jobless rate was up 3.1 percentage points from a year ago when it stood at 5.5 percent.
The unemployment rate in the metro Warner Robins area also declined to a preliminary unadjusted rate of 6.8 percent in March, down from a revised 7.3 percent in February, the release stated. The March jobless rate was up 2.4 percentage points from 4.4 percent for the same time last year.

Good news. Columbus's unemployment rate dropped as well. I believe it is now 8.4%. Hopefully things will be turning for the state, at least it sounds like it in Macon and Columbus.

Savannah Metro's unemployment rate also dropped from 7.9% to 7.5%. This has been good news for Columbus, Macon & Savannah. Yet the state of GA itself's unemplyment has remained stagnant from the previous month. Maybe the Atlanta Metro is playing a part in that?

Yeah, Metro Augusta went from 9.0 to 8.8 as well. Looks like most of the mid sized metro's saw a drop.

Well alot of people who lived in Atlanta. Have moved to Augusta over the last 5 years. North Atlanta residents have come here in numbers. When the jobs from SRS, Medical District, Plant vogtle, and National Security Agency jumpstart in 2010-2011. Even more fromer Atl residents will move here in bigger numbers. Its alot easier to get a high paying job in Augusta than the competition in Atlanta.

I'm not sure how one can measure this.. aside from anecdotal evidence. There is no database or survey to show "where" the people moving into Augusta are moving from.. Considering that over half the state's population is in metro Atlanta, it would make sense that a large number of ppl moving to Augusta from other parts of georgia would be from metro Atlanta. I'm sure the same can be said for Savannah, Columbus, Macon, Athens, etc. the fact is, there are no numbers to measure this migration... only whether there was growth, but not where it came from. I still would say that more young people leave Augusta for metro Atlanta than the other way around. there is a reason why the growth of metro Atlanta is nearly quadruple that of other cities in Georgia. Professional jobs are just much more plentiful in Atlanta.. people are going to go where the opportunities are.
