I agree with the Decatur, Candler Park, and Athens opinions in that order. You won't enjoy the North Georgia Mountains. Very conservative and Baptist. Our neighbors moved to Roswell. They did not enjoy their time 'up here'. They worked hard at maintaining a low profile but never said why. We miss them. The most popular hobby up here is pulling weeds out of your lawn with a tweezers.
I don't know about adoptions in Georgia. Before you move here, I'd check that out thoroughly. Talk to an attorney or a gay rights group in Atlanta. Georgia still has a lot of archaic laws on the books.
Best wishes.

Thanks and more opinions always welcome
Thanks for the opinions everyone, I'm checking out every option...except the "nice" comment about the "north Georgia beaver mountain" comment.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Piedmont Park/Midtown area of Atlanta. There's a large gay/lesbian population there. I also think Inman Park and Little Five Points might be good Atlanta neighborhoods for you to look into.

We are both college graduates and have degrees in health promotion and education with a focus on community health.
Basically we would like affordable housing in an area with a small community feel that's also close to a river or lake.
Any suggestions would be great.

Have you seen "Deliverance" the movie? Rent it! Watch it! You will see that rural GA is very gay friendly! If you want to move here, I would suggest that you consider only Atlanta and Savannha. Otherwise you will have to deal with the inbreds, rednecks, religious snake handlers and yahoos that populate the rest of the state outside the metro areas.

The park is great but the town of Stone Mountain is not a place you want to live. Too ghetto, too much crime.

Well the part that's in Gwinnett county is pretty nice but the OP won't find many people like them there.

Wow, so there's no gay people outside of Atlanta?

Did some good ole boy beat your a** or something? Not a very friendly view of native Georgians, you must be a transplant.
