Must not have been to Gwinnett lately.
Actually Buford to Dacula/Auburn are Gay Friendly.
The Gay population in 30019/30011/ and 30519 has grown very heavily.
One thing about Gwinnett, we pretty much have everything in regard to population diversity.

I was not speaking of Gwinnett county as a whole. I was speaking of the portion of Stone Mountain that is in Gwinnett County. The OP will not find many people like her and her partner there.

Openly gay? Life would be hard outside Atlanta metro, Athens or Savannah. I guess it is possible but you'd probably get lots of grief.

I am a transplant and no, I have not yet experienced a redneck beatdown here. Maybe I will. It is not the beat down that worries me as much as the slobbering snuff all over my clothes. My cleaning bills would be a Bi**h!

Well I'm a gay guy that lives in small town Alabama and my s/o and I don't have any problems, I can't imagine GA would be worse. We don't french kiss in public, but we wouldn't do that if we were straight anyways. The rural south isn't as bad as your TV tells you it is. There are a few loudmouths that make their voices heard, but they're not the majority.

Besides, if memory serves, aren't you from Kansas? What if I assumed you were like the Rev. Phelps because of where you come from? That wouldn't be fair would it?

Great post, and I agree.

I have lived here for 23 years this month, have traveled extensively throughout the State (including the Mountain Counties) and have NEVER had a problem with anyone.

I would say the exact same thing about Kansas that I would say about Georgia. Kansas is also full of rednecks. If you openly gay and you don't live in Wichita, Salina, Garden City, Topeka or the KC Metro, you will probably catch hell.

Athens is pretty liberal. The places between Athens and Atlanta such as Winder are fairly liberal. The places on the other side of Athens are probably less liberal.
