Hmmm. Not sure what you mean by "the other side of Athens" but I've spent quite a bit of time in Watkinsville (Oconee County) and I found most of the people there to be open-minded and friendly. It's close to Athens and I honestly don't think a gay couple would have many, if any, problems there.

True... the only places in Georgia where gays can live comfortably are metro Atlanta, Savannah and Athens.

I see same sex couples all the time. In downtown Augusta and the mall. Richmond county is more liberal than Fulton, Clarke, and Chatham county.

Richmond County is more liberal than Fulton, Clarke or Chatham....exactly how so???
Richmond County is many things, but liberal is not one of them. A gay couple walking hand in hand in downtown or at the mall would get lots of dirty looks and some insults hurled their way. Gays can probably live in Augusta without too much trouble, but being visibly "out" may be met with some harrassment.

If Augusta is more liberal than Atlanta, Athens and Savannah, then I suppose Tulsa, OK is more liberal than NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Augusta might not be as liberal as some of those areas (not so much in the suburbs of Columbia County though), but it has enough of a liberal vibe that a lesbian or gay couple would not be too out of place (I have had friends here in both catergories). There are even a few clubs in Augusta that cater to this demographic. Now Gay, GA (Meriwether County) on the other hand is a very rural and socially conservative area and I would think would be a harder place to feel comfortable.

Dude please. Richmond county not liberal? Are you joking. Name one election that richmond county didn't go blue in. Richmond county I bet has more gay clubs/bars than Savannah and Athens. I have plenty of gay friends in Augusta. Who don't get dirty looks or insults hurled thier way.

Please explain how so Athens and Savannah are more liberal? That seems like your opinion instead of facts.

We went through this last time. I told you the only county that voted higher for obama in the 08 election. Over richmond county was Fulton. Chatham and Clarke county vote for obama was lower than Richmond was.

You need to check your facts there. DeKalb voted for Obama by a MUCH larger percentage than Fulton did.

[quote=lilmusket;8364584]If Augusta is more liberal than Atlanta, Athens and Savannah, quote] If Savannah and Athens are more liberal?

Then why in the 2008 election. The people in Chatham and Clarke county vote for the liberal democrat. Was a lower than what Richmond did. Fulton county beat Richmond by one point in voting for obama.

Where were all these liberal democrats in the two cities during the election? Since according to you their much liberal cities than Augusta. Why don't the polls reflect that? Richmond county vote for the liberal democrat should have been lower than Athens and Savannah. Not higher than both like it was.
