Just because Augusta has more religious diversity than Savannah and Athens, doesn't make it one bit more liberal. Just because the majority of Richmond County voted Democrat, doesn't make it liberal. Big difference.

I couldn't resist looking this up...turns out Augusta has four:
Club Argos
Coliseum
Another Level
PJ's Lounge

It also turns out that Augusta has a gay resort as well! It's called the Parliament House. I guess we're not giving Augusta enough credit... something's going on over there .

Athens is pretty liberal but I would say the attitudes towards gays is not that open. Decatur would be the most welcoming IMO

A smaller percentage of people in Athens-Clarke County voted for the gay marriage ban than any other county in the state. (In Richmond County, where Augusta is located, 78% of people voted for the ban.)
I think Decatur, Little Five Points, Athens and Savannah all make sense. I love midtown, but OP said she's not looking for a big city feel.

I remember reading in the Atlanta paper a while back about a Lesbian Commune somewhere in north georgia. This has been several years ago. They grow their own food and everything is solar and wind powered and eco friendly. They make their own honey and preserves and sell it to area stores. It was very interesting.

I have lived in Athens since the 60's. Recently retired from the University of Georgia. I will guarantee you that you will find Athens to your likens! The city is an international city with all life styles.
If you want we can even direct you to some local meeting places for those with similar tastes.

Decatur is my 1st one pick and Atlanta is my second and outside of GA. I here Philadelphia is a huge gay community. When I go to Down town Decatur I always see women holding hands and showing their public affections and I LOVE IT. Don't believe the hype about not being able to adopt kids, I have plenty of friend who are gay and lesbian that have kids together throught adoption! When you move down here you will be surprised of all of the support gay and lesbians have by the hetro sexual but if you go out of Atlanta mostly where the state voted republican then you will see the good ole GA and her conservative side. Good Luck family members, tell all of your friends to come here. It's about time we make this whole state liberal. LOL

What does blacks being conservative have to do with anything? According to 2007 census stats, there aren't enough black people in GA to decide anything.
White persons, percent, 2007 (a) 65.6%
Black persons, percent, 2007 (a) 30.0%
American Indian and Alaska Native persons, percent, 2007 (a) 0.3%
Asian persons, percent, 2007 (a) 2.8%
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, percent, 2007 (a) 0.1%
Persons reporting two or more races, percent, 2007 1.2%
Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin, percent, 2007 (b) 7.8%
White persons not Hispanic, percent, 2007 58.5%
