Lesbian couple wanting to move to Georgia
My girlfriend and i are wanting to move to Georgia. We'd prefer somewhere obviously gay friendly. We do plan to eventually have kids so somewhere with good schools would be a plus. Since we won't be moving for at least a year and a half we have time, but don't know where we would be working yet. We are both college graduates and have degrees in health promotion and education with a focus on community health.
Basically we would like affordable housing in an area with a small community feel that's also close to a river or lake.
Any suggestions would be great.

You might want to look into Athens, GA. I think it's supposed to be the most liberal city, and it's really pretty and vibrant.

Decatur is going to be Georgia's Lesbian Mecca along with Candler Park.
Athens is a very progressive collegfe town, and you would probably feel very welcome there but I think you will find a much larger lesbian community in Decatur... Btw its the hometown of The Indigo Girls and Agnes Scott College.

That's why there are no gays in Georgia right? Most people couldn't give a crap. (And I'm an interior back-country hick). Have you looked at Rome?

Would totally recommend Atlanta. Most definitely one of the most gay-friendly cities in the country. If you want to live closer to the ocean, then Savannah is your best bet. It's not really the most liberal place, but it's the most liberal of the 2nd tier cities. It also has a sizable gay population.

I agree about Savannah, but I'd say Athens is equally as liberal as Savannah.. maybe moreso in some ways. I think Savannah probably has the largest and most visible gay community in the state outside metro Atlanta.

Yeah, I saw a lot of them in Savannah (particularly in downtown). I do agree with Athens as well. Very cute college town, and the natural setting looks gorgeous.
