(There is a double negative in there, by the way[actually it is a triple negative].)
OK, using this site for information, the average household income in Warner Robins is below the state average. Most of your friends parents might have been professionals, but as a whole the city is not very prosperous. One would think that would be the case in a white collar town. I assume we would agree on that point... a large group of white collar workers would elevate the average household income, correct? Guess what the most common occupation for males is in Warner Robins? (That is one of those question thingy's we talked about earlier.) It would be vehicle and mobile equipment mechanics, installers and repairers. That makes up about nine percent of the male workforce... the highest identifiable percentage on the provided scale. If you consider car/vehicle mechanics to be white collar then we need not go further in this discussion. But if you will concede that point then we can move on to the most common occupation for females in Warner Robins. Office and administration support, followed closely by secretaries and teachers. All great occupations, but white collar? I do not think so.
Oh, and those nice homes you were talking about earlier? Well, the average house value in Warner Robins is over $50,000 less than the state average. $50,000 less! One would think, in a white collar town, that house values would exceed the state average.
I am standing by my blue collar comment. And I am less than irate.
You make some valid points.I know that Warner Robins is not a rich city but far from a poor city.Cities like Dalton(despite the high number of millionaires),Milledgville,or Fort Valley are more blue collar to me.I suppose there is no higher concentration of either white collar or blue collar.I see it as neither the more I think about it.Blue collar cities have an air of "grittiness" about them.I just don't get that from Warner Robins.

As far as house values go,the values of the state of Georgia are below the national average.Furthermore most of the values that drive up the state average are in the Metro Atlanta area. Also the most populous area of the state.Incomes are lower as a reflection as well.In smaller cities people make less money.Things cost less.

OK then... we will agree to disagree. I guess it all really comes down to how one defines a "Blue Collar Town/City". I could not find a decent definition of 'blue collar'. Based on information from this site, I would consider Alpharetta a white collar town. The average household income is basically double the state average as is the average home cost. Perhaps we could agree on that one. 'Blue Collar' is more of a 'feel' thing, and you do not 'feel' it for Warner Robins and I do.

Rapidfire, if you have the opportunity you say you have then you jump all over that and take the job. Several years ago I had an excellent opportunity in Knoxville and I passed it up. I thought other opportunities will come along, but don't make that mistake especially with the way the economy is now. You are young and this may propel your career tremendously and move you up the pay scale financially. Enjoy your new area, good or bad it does not mean you will be there forever. Good opportunities rarely come aroud twice, you are young...take the job down the road you will be glad you did.

Thanks a lot posters, I've been reading the thread daily and letting it marinate a little bit to see what responses I could get. I have decided to take the job as of this past Monday, so it's a go. Now I just have to get there and look for a decent place to live for the time being. I've never "relocated" relocated before, so this is going to be an adventure for me and my Fiance'.

Thanks for the responses and keep em coming if there is any info to be shared.

Warner Robins is a great place to raise a family. Houston county has some of the best schools in the state. If you are considering getting married and raising a family, Warner Robins beats Orlando hands down anyday.
However, comparing the two cities are like comparing apples to oranges. WR is much, much smaller than Orlando, and there's not alot to do there...

Rapidfire300...

If your moving to WR to take a job and are at the low to mid end of income earnings (less than 100k) your probably going to have a great experience. I have lived in WR for more than 40 years and I can tell you that there is a ceiling on earnings there. I can tell you more but you will need to PM me.

Too funny - I like Warner Robins because it is close to Robins AFB and I'm retired military - good benefits being close to the base. I like the weather, the people, good job opportunities, and it's an easy drive to Florida, the coast, or entertainment parks within Georgia, fishing, and hunting.

Hello, I am not sure if you took the job or not, but Warner Robins was voted the #1 place to live & raise a family. There are homes in the area that sale in ranges of $30k to $1mil or more. There are subdivisions in all price ranges and some with great ammenities. Making a move to Warner Robins is a great choice. I have lived here 34 years and I have watched it grow bigger and bigger.

Congratulations on the new move and job. My aunt and uncle moved to area about six years ago from Orlando. They had two teenage boys at the time and couldn't stand the crime rates in Orlando. It was a move back home for my uncle, but my aunt loves it and wouldn't move for the world. When looking for a place to live in the area, try Centerville or Kathleen, but anywhere in Houston (pronounced How-ston) and you'll be okay. As stated earlier, the county is great in terms of education. I am often in the area visiting and I'm planning on moving here when I can afford to buy a house (Houston or Monroe Counties). It's a great place. Oh, and you have to be a Northside Eagle (it's the BEST high school in Houston County). Don't let anyone tell you differently.
