HOW TRUE!! So many times I have called or visited my center and found that I knew much more than the representatives there. And the attitude you get from them is unbearable! They don't take their job seriously enough to follow the legislation like we are doing to make themselves aware of what's coming (staff nor management), but want to treat us like we are a waste of their time when we are truly the reason they have a job!

Perdue signs unemployment bill

By The Associated Press

ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed a bill that expands unemployment benefits in Georgia. The new law makes the state eligible for $226 million of dollars in federal stimulus dollars for the state's unemployment insurance fund.

The new law provides another 13 weeks of unemployment benefits in Georgia for those who've exhausted their 26 weeks of regular benefits. The additional benefits will be paid for with federal dollars.

The bill signed by Perdue on Tuesday also allows people seeking part-time work to qualify for unemployment. And some Georgians can also receive unemployment while in a training program, under the new law. Perdue said the changes will cost the state less than $1.2 million a year.

Angry DOL Issues

I hope the post about the signing is true, but seems relative when you consider we still have to wait over a month more just to re-certify or whatever. Then after that how long before $? I told that Norris dude at governor's office that the DOL needs to be kept informed, that they're clueless. Truth is, he seemed disinterested as is the DOL. I bet if they were unemployed that attitude would change fast!

HB 581 at the bottom section 12 as we know states:
this act shall become effective upon its approval by the governor or upon its becoming law without such approval provided etc...........you know this rest..... only gotta read it..
so this is the NEXT ISSUE IS SECTION 9 EFFECTIVE OR IS IT STILL DELAYED???

I know that we should all be happy that the bill was finally signed, but I feel that there is always another hurdle to jump. The next month is going to be pretty rocky. Until everything is spelled out in black and white, we don't even know who qualifies. I noticed something interesting about the press release. It says that the new law provides another 13 weeks of unemployment. Everywhere else including NELP says 20 weeks.
The news is good, but it gives me no peace of mind, and won't until I have that first check in my hand or a job. Hopefully the latter will come first.

Okay, so Perdue has done his part by signing this bill. We all know that the GDOL is going to take the whole amount of time (May 25) before they issue these funds, I say you don't need a permit to go to the DOL. If everyone go to the DOL just for the hell of it, each day until they update their computers or update their web site, I bet you they won't drag their feet.

I am going first thing in the morning. I hate the thought of sitting there, but I will go every chance I get.
