Well all states have to comply with the same law when it comes to accepting the stimulus money for the employment funds. So reading information off of other states threads is a valuable tool to me. The last time I checked this is america and i can freely post anything I want and you dont have to read it..but I was not planning to post any information from any other state,as I had posted anyone can feel free to go to any state if they wish.

lynx290,
just wanted to let you know that georgia trigger is NOT ON....here is a website you can check every day if you want
On a weekly basis, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) provides on update of which states have reached
the required unemployment level to trigger on to EB. The most recent notice is summarized in Table 1, and
the weekly DOL notice can be found at
http://ows.doleta.gov/unemploy/claims_arch.asp by selecting

“Extended Benefits Trigger Notice.”

Ga is not triggered on, it can't happen until the bill is passed or signed by the governor. Let me clarify that, the bill becomes law when signed by the governor, he has 40 days after session to do so. If he does not, it automatically be comes law. If he vetoes it, the bill goes back to the house, and can become law by virtue of a new vote. The margin of vote required to pass it is higher at that time. We do however qualify for 20 weeks when the bill becomes law. HOPEFOR....while reading what happens to other states may be a valuable tool, it does not necessarily apply to Georgia. As I stated in another post, each state has the OPTION of determining eligibility.

I have read the bill at least a dozen times and still can't figure out an answer to your question. I did write to Rep Coan and asked him to define who does and does not qualify. He has been very good about writing back, hopefully will respond soon.

I dont know if anyone said it or wrote it yet but HB 581 was sent to the Governor's office yesterday. . .He will sign it because of the pressure of both parties in the state to accept ALL the money from the stimulus. Plus he stated that he would.

Cool, Do we beg for money until it goes into effect or will they pay for the gap in the weeks that I'm not getting now?

Not sure if this is acurate, but here is another article online.

Elizabeth J. Appley, an attorney with the Women’s Policy Group, said the Georgia Works Job Creation and Protection Act of 2009 (HB 581) would change that.
“This bill includes provisions to allow Georgia to receive the federal stimulus money for extended benefits for workers who are exhausting their benefits,” said Ms. Appley.
She said the federal funds could provide an additional 13 weeks of benefits to workers whose benefits end during 2009. “If unemployment continues to rise in Georgia, we have also provided that we could receive an additional 20 weeks of benefits under the federal plan,” she said.
Ms. Appley said that could mean an additional $315 million in income for 87,000 unemployed Georgians through the end of 2009. She said there are more than 445,000 Georgians out of work, and only one third receive unemployment benefits.
Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce President Brian Anderson said he was not familiar with HB
