Thumbs up GA DOL will pass extended unemployment benefits next week

I confirmed today this morning from the governor's office that Mr.Perdue will sign legislation next week to offer extended unemployment benefits starting May 25th. The length of the benefits should be available for a minimum of 20 weeks.

NateDawg, That's all well and good, but how many of us will be able to survive until may 25? I my self will be two months behind on all my bills. My landlord and the electric co. water, gas, phone, and not to mention my internet will be cut off. Whats a person to do, when their backs against the wall with no where to turn?

I wish I had the power to move the needle closer to right now. . Believe me- If I could convince Perdue to make it a seemless time table I would. The best advice I can give is try EBay and other internet sources to sell goods, odds and ends jobs like mowing yards car wash residencial touch ups or just anything to get to that date. I know it is really hard and times seem overwhelming but we have to stay positive and pull together and hope for this period to pass so we can get back on our feet. Ya never know maybe with some luck the date for unemployment will move forward. . .

THIS IS WHAT I SAW TODAY MAY 10 WHEN CERTIFYING I HOPE I AM A LUCKY ONE

Certification Access

Legislation authorizing payment of state extended unemployment benefits was signed into law by the Governor on April 21, 2009. The Georgia Department of Labor immediately began the implementation process by identifying individuals that may be qualified to receive these benefits. Eligibility notification will be sent by mail to all potentially eligible individuals on May 8, 2009. In addition, the department is aggressively initiating programming changes to facilitate the application process. An online State Extended Benefit application will be available as of May 22, 2009. Please continue to visit our website for updates on the state extended unemployment benefits program.
If you are currently receiving benefits and exhaust your claim, you may be entitled to Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits. Continue to certify each week, there is no need to call or visit your career center to file your claim. Your extension of benefits will automatically be processed.
