At the drop of a hat--any and all of these gentlemen would gladly expound at length on the greatness of the State of GA--and of course, what they did to make Georgia great.

I was attempting to insert a bit of humor. Georgia has been home to me and my family for generations and we don't boast and brag about it ourselves--just enjoy living here and enjoy eating the peaches and peanuts and vidalia onions and juicy tomato sandwiches every summer. We also call Atlanta 'The Dogwood City' and we all may well be insane but that's OK. We can still LOL at ourselves.

'Well, it's a deep subject'--as my granddaddy would say.

Not trying to argue that;

But anything Sonny does "for the good of Georgia" is really for the good of him and his friends.

Even as a republican, I despise Sonny Perdue.

Georgia really should relinquish this "Peach State" nonsense, as we're only #3 in peach production, behind California & SC.

But GA is #1 in peanuts & pecans. Maybe we should be called the "Pecan State"? That way, we can teach the nation the proper pronunciation of this nut ("pee-can", not "puh-cahn").

Growing up in Georgia I developed an aversion to politics at an early age.

It would be difficult for me to identify 'The Good Guys' from 'The Bad Guys' at this point.

And living in Atlanta, with the dogwoods, when I visited other parts of the state the welcome was not always warm and friendly, not that it matters except for the idea that 'Southern Hospitality' abounds.

I'm sure some state has already laid claim to the tomato but I could support 'Georgia, Home of the BLT' proudly.

j/k, lol and out the door to check on the tomatoes--so many different kinds and there is just nothing better than a tomato straight off the vine

At any rate GA was never able to raise a great deal of enthusiasm for 'The Big Peach'. Many believe the peaches of South Carolina to be juicier or sweeter, too. LOL.
"More peaches are grown in Greenville County, SC than in the entire state of Georgia." This factoid has been regurgitated to me ad nauseum by a friend from Greenville, SC.

I have learned things in this thread that truly amaze me.

My family is particularly fond of a certain type of peach--perhaps grown in Greenville, SC--and it is a 'Big Deal' each year when said peaches are available. This often 'drives me out of my mind' however I continue to love peaches and watermelon and boiled peanuts.

How about 'Georgia, the Fried Catfish' state?

What about all those beautiful "Georgia Peaches" that we grow here. You've got to admit there's a lot of those pretty peaches here. And, they are mostly sweet ones too. We have that southern hospitality down pat too, bless your heart.

I have lived in GA all my life and am darn proud of it. I grew up in the area where the Vidalia Onions are grown.

Somebody will probably post an explanation but it's not that big of a deal to me. I enjoy living in Georgia--not the sort to be outwardly prideful about it.

As for 'The Big Peach'--atlantagreg has made several amusing posts about that. Where is he--his pithy insights would liven up this thread.

...and Atlanta as "The Dogwood City" was/is mentioned in the World Book Encyclopedia.

...and Georgia is known as the "Peach State" because it used to lead in the production of peaches in the ~1920's/30's/40's...

...and a variety of peaches grown/originating in GA became very popular...known for taste/texture, etc.

...and GA retains its "Peach State-ness" because its peaches are still known for being better/tastier/sweeter/juicier (even though SC and CA produce now more peaches).
