i just noted you mentioned chattanooga. i gather you are not necessarily looking for a university town though Chatt has a university. you might want to check out Greenville, SC or Charleston, SC. Athens is very limited in ways that count. If you are not a student, then you might find it hard to find a group and a social life. Nothing is automatic here. Most people cannot get a ticket to a football game. Most cannot find a decent job if a job at all especially during these economic times.

Thanks Ollie, et al. for your insight and advice. I'm still going to come check out Athens, after all, it is what I make of it...however due to the opinions I have thus far received, I think I'm leaning towards Chattanooga or another of the other cities mentioned.

Thanks y'all.

a.mckelvey is on a distinguished road
If you are still interested in Athens and haven't moved yet...

I am looking to sublease my place in a 3 bed/2 bath house. 2 female roommates, both are very nice and quite, not really at home most of the time. Both go to UGA. Total of 3 dogs and 1 cat in house, but 2 of the dogs are only there maybe 2 days out of the week (stay at her boyfriend's house the rest of the time), and the other one stays in the back yard when owner is not at home.

Bedroom comes with bed and dresser, whole house furnished. Rent $450/month including all utilities and trash service. On the North side, in a small, quiet Neighborhood off of Newton Bridge Road. Near loop, about 5 minutes from downtown, and close to stores, but for enough that it's not the "college scene". Fenced in Yard! No deposit or pet fees!

Let me know if you are interested. Need to find a replacement ASAP, moving to a place with a pasture for my horses.
