Land near Athens GA
I lived in the Athens area over 20 years and highly recommend it. I have 5.8 acres of land with a ranch brick house. I can subdivide the property into a parcel with 1.4 acres and the house and another with 4.4 acres. It is in a highly desirable area. If interested , send a thread and I will respond.

Can anyone tell me the ups and downs of Athens, the job market there, etc. Also, any ideas on where to look at land? We have college aged kids in school in FL now that may come with us and an 8 year old.

Athens is a great place to live. I lived there over 20 years and highly recommend it. I have 5.8 acres of land for sale near Athens in Oconee county. As someone said, Oconee has one of the best school sytems in GA. The acreage has an existing ranch brick which could be lived in while you build a new home. It would make a great rental property. This property is in a highly desirable area and is about one mile from Hwy 316 ( 4 lane that connects Athens and Atlanta.) I also have about 10-12 acres for sale at another location. I would be happy to discuss Athens with you if that would help.

Jackson county is the best bet. taxes are pretty low. Most houses have an acre of land , alot have more. I live in Athens , but live in Jackson County. Alot of beautiful affordable homes there.

We live in Athens, but also live in Jackson County. Really a nice place to live. It is quiet and somewhat rural..alot of land for sale yet close to stores and shops.. Low taxes.. make that area your best bet.. also not so far to get to Athens as Daniellsville.. I hate Commerce so we are in the right spot!!!!!!

I get the impression the OP may wish to be near a college. On that note, don't forget to check out Oconee & Anderson Co's. in SC

Jackson county is not that far, I live just outside of Jefferson and it's only 14 miles to Athens.
BTW, my property is for sale please PM me if anyone is interested.
