Georgia and cut off dates for Kindergatens
Dear All,
We will be relocating to Georgia next year and I will like to enquire about a couple of things.
We are looking at moving to the Gwinnett County (Suwanee) to be precise. Are there any other areas that are equally as good (good schools, low crime etc) in the Gwinett areas?
Secondly, one of my children was born on the 10th of September and I got to know that September 1st is the cut off date? How do I go about this? The State I live in at the moment has a September 30th cut off. I won't mind considering private schooling. I will like to know if the private school system are not as stringent with the cut off dates? If any, I will like to kindly have the names of the schools or somewhere that I can get the information from.
Any advice on these issues will be appreciated.

Private school is your best option to bypass the Birthday rule, but you have to stay on top of them. They may want to test your child to see what academic level he/she is on. After 2nd grade or so, I believe the birthday rule doesn't apply as long as your child is in school and scoring well and keeping up with the school work.

Thanks so much for your prompt response BKATL. Do you by any chance know the names of such private schools who will bypass this rule and consider such kids.

If you are moving to Suwanee you might want to consider Sugar Hill Christian Academy, although I do not know what their cutoff date is.

Will your child already be enrolled in school before you move to Georgia? If so, the new state will take the child into whatever grade the child is coming out of. I went thru this with my daughter who has an October birthday.

No my child will not be enrolled before moving but your suggestion sounds like a good idea. Could you kindly explain how you went about your daughter who had an October birthday please and what were the challenges you faced in the schools in georgia when you were about to register her.
Thanks

If your child is not already enrolled in school when you move, then you will fall under the registration guidelines of wherever you are living at the time she enrolls in school. If your child is already enrolled in school when you move-it doesn't matter where you move to-she will continue in the grade where she was when you moved. Once your child starts school, she doesn't become a ping-pong ball that they can keep moving around because of her birthday. It is all determined on where you are living at the time she is supposed to start school there.
As for registering kids in school, I've registered kids in PA, NC, and FL. Florida was the most difficult--only because we have so many illegals down here. Florida nit-picked everything. Otherwise, you will just register your kids and show the proper paperwork--proof of residence, immunizations, birth certificate, etc.

Thank you so much for the advice. It is highly noted. One more thing, do you know of any private schools in the suwanee and surrounding areas who will be less stringent with the September 1st rule.
I am just trying to plan ahead and know what options are available for me in terms of private schooling.
Thanks
