Default Looking for a few good neighbors

Hey y'all. See natives I haven't relocated yet but am already learning to assimilate! Anyway, I'm moving to Waycross, GA. I know, I know some of you have strong opinions about it, but the way I see it is it's up to you to be happy and make what you want of it.

The truth is I'm relocating there by default. I have lived the last ten years in Miami and had a great time during my clubbing days, successful employment and did ok in real estate. Why leave? Well as Kenny Rogers says "you gotta know when to walk away" (besides we have our 2 yr old daughter now to think about / we are in our mid 30's). So, we cashed in on our real estate and began our search for the place in which to write our next chapter.

We found Asheville, NC to have all the qualities we were looking for (too much to list here). After spending a week there we made two offers on land, incredibly our number 1 choice came back with an offer we couldn't refuse but we had to. Reality crept back after coming down from cloud 9. It didn't make sense financially since we would have to rent for approximately a year while building our house (on a piece of land we fell in love with but was more than we originally budgeted for) AND have to mortgage the home AND maintain a mortgage on our lot in Waycross (purchased as an investment).

So, we've decided to build our new "green home" in Waycross (without having to worry about a mortgage on the home-only land). We realize that our income will be half of what we're used to but we can definitely manage to pay for the land even if we worked part-time. Regardless, we'd like to take advantage of the entrepreneurial mentoring program we found there. Downtown is being revitalized and looks very attractive. Well, as I said, I'm looking for a few good neighbors.

Y'all take care now, hear?

What made you pick waycross? I have a son (8yrs) and will be moving to GA in a few years. I am looking for a small quiet town. I visited SC/GA a few years ago and fell in love with the south. I would like to move no more than an hr from I-95 somewhere in GA. I scuba dive and want to get to the keys a few times a year. I have done some research and Waycross was on my interested list. I am not ready to buy just yet, still looking for "my town". Let me know what you think about your town and any other towns near by. You can pm me or email me if you like.
