Nola:

Wilmington Island is really a great place to start. Has a very "neighborhood-y" feeling to it. Lots of locally owned businesses, and housing for everyone--from really inexpensive rentals to million dollar plus properties on the river.

We've been here 6 years, and really can't imagine living anywhere else in SAV.

Good luck.

Scott

Default Looking at Wilmington

I see that you grew up on Wilmington: I am considering taking a job in the area but need a place for my boys. Could you give me the lowdown on how living there would be for young teens? Any info about schools, etc? I am worried that I will have to put them in private school, which really is not cool with them. I hear Wilmington Island is a real option for living outside of Savannah. What about from the teen perspective?

Man, had a many good times on Tybee as a kid.....many drinking times too.....:O

You should know your flood hazard. Check with the Chatham County Department of Engineering at (652-7800) to find out what flood zone you are in and what the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) is for your neighborhood. You can also use the forms or email address on this page to obtain a Flood Zone Determination letter.

Wilmington/ Island Whitemarsh in in the Unincorporated County

80% of Wilmington Island would be flooded by a Cat2 Hurricane. I would highly recommend flood insurance.
you would need to consult the flood maps.
