Moving to Georgia?
I am graduating from college in May and looking for a teaching position.
My boyfriend is looking for a music ed. position in a middle or high school.
We were interested in the Cobb county and Paulding county areas.
We heard they were nice, inexpensive, and had a great music scene.
We are moving from West Virginia....
What should we know before we move?
Is what we heard true?
Any advice???
From what I've read Thomasville, Columbus and Fayette Co. are also nice areas.
What would be the best and easiest to get used to?

Actually depends on the type of music youre into. Atlanta has the hip-hop industry and athens(northwest of atlanta) is a mecaa for the alternative music(rem and b-52's are from there). Paulding is the 9th fastest growing county in the country and is inexpensive for now. Cobb is just to crowded for me but im from gwinnett county so what do i know

thanks
Thanks for the reply.
Are both nice places to live?
How are their schools?
I've never been that south, is there anything I need to be aware of before heading down?
My boyfriend plays mostly jazz...he's heard there is somewhat of a jazz scene, and a large high school marching band scene. Is this true?

Columbus has nice jazz scene and some the best high school marching bands in the state (Carver, Spencer, Shaw and Columbus High). The cost of living is low, but you better hurry, because the secret is getting out about this hick town :>). Columbus State University has one of the best Music Schools in the State/Nation. We are not over crowded, but we have a well diverse city with a good mixture of all races who get along very well together. Besides Columbus needs teachers desperately.

Cobb County has very good schools. What you've heard about the marching bands is definitely true there (and Columbus, as JLA mentioned). The high school I went to had a marching band that won a national championship, which I heard all about since I had a few friends in it. Several other high schools in the area have equally good bands.
Most people should be friendly and welcoming! I've had issues with Cobb County in the past (they have their fair share of snobs), but overall they're pretty nice.
I don't know about Paulding, but dncngrl1964 seems to have all the info.

east cobb seems to have the "snobbier people" but that mainly generated around Lassiter High school I dont know why
Lassiter band is the one that goes to the Macy's day parade every year
it is a very good school but you will definitely see the haves and have nots there and the have will definitely not have a problem with tell you that you dont have it that is my only concern with that school kinda 90210ish
