Default Oglethorpe vs Oconee county

I am looking for some advice. I moved from Chicago to Athens for a job in Jan and have decided to buy a home here as I find the apartments in Athens suboptimal to say the least. I work on the East side and am looking to be within say 12 miles or so of where I work.

My budget is a maximum of around 200k preferably less. I am single with no kids so schools are not a huge issue for me at present.

So far I am debating between Oglethorpe County just outside Winterville or Oconee County.

I like that area of Oglethorpe county and am noticing some nice and very reasonable priced new homes and developments off Hargrove Lake Rd. The commute would seem to be pretty reasonable. They seem to be marketing it very aggresively (which to me makes me suspicious if there are issues they are trying to overcome)

I have also heard real good things about Oconee county and like it too. However, it seems to run about and extra 40k+ for a home there. Also the commute is pretty much limited to Simonton Bridge Rd, seems like it could get backed up easily as it is a very narrow Rd.

Could someone give me the pro's and cons of both areas.
