Racism/Georgia (Atlanta, White: violent crime, school, bill)

There are gangs in big cities who do not except you unless you become one of them. Generational mountain people distrust ANYONE, ANY COLOR from outside their community. In small towns, churches, at work places there are cliques and groups that exclude others. Homophobic have fears of gay people. It all comes back to the psychological fact, we feel most comfortable around that which is familiar. Most of us have a hard time with change period, it usually brings a certain amount of psychological stress with it.
Point being Georgia or anywhere around the world you can find various levels of not being accepted or welcomed to down right hostile expressions.

After reading City-Data.com (detailed profile of cities) , I don't know if I'm a "racist" or just "cautious"

I have used City-Data.com to check out hundreds of cities throughout the south in search of a retirement /relocation destination.
I really don't care what my neighbor's race will be if the town suits me.

However, when using the "detailed profile" of a town,the racial breakdown is given near the top. The crime statistics for that town is much farther down.

By now, I can nearly tell you the crime rating of a town as soon as I see the racial breakdown.

50-50 (whites to blacks)----------crime rate about 2 X the national average
75-25 (whites to blacks)----------crime rate about 1.5 X the national average
90-10( whites to blacks)----------crime rate below the national average

I have checked out small towns,small cities, medium cities.
High median income,low medium income,
Northern parts of a state,southern parts of a state
High percentage of people living below poverty,low percent below poverty.

Why is it in the vast majority of towns I have researched, racial identification is the biggest indicator of the crime rate than any other statistic that is listed ?

Why is this and what will it take before the racial data has no bearing on crime rate ?

By the way!!! Atlanta is not referred to the Empire State of the South. Of course they think they are. It is Georgia who is the Empire State of the South. I live in SW Georgia and racism still exists, but I see it in the African Americans more than the whites. My best friend is black and we do have our differences, but still get along. It is the whole attitude of a individual. Poverty and crime go hand in hand. Some of the home raising in SW Georgia could be better. 13 year olds having twins. You have to be careful where you go, and as a bi-racial family, you will fare a lot better in a white area than a black area. It is the difference of the cultures. You can usually blend in both. As far as the KKK rallies, they do no exist anymore and most black families enjoy living in the south with no fear of being ridiculed than the whites do.

This is ridiculous.I have mixed family members that live where ever they want and black or white .most of the time they have had know major problems in Georgia.Especially in the Atlanta area and near some of the second tier cities where there are major military installations.

I've talked to white people who move in from other states and unknowingly become racists because of the lifestyles of some(not all) of the minorities. You've got three kinds here: racist whites, racist blacks and the few who do actually get along with each other. It's a mess.

Dont actually know how I got on this thread, but I never reply and I have to, to this one. Yes, KKK rallies DO still exist. I live in Donalsonville,Ga and there was just one here. I know there was another one in Gainesville, Ga not that long ago too, which is in N. Ga. And I have friends in Lafayette and Chickamauga and they don't have rallies(that I know of), but a lot of very rasist people live in that area. And in Ellijay, there is like a headquarters there. I think they call themselves the knight riders of Georgia. Put it in a search engine and see what pops up. You might be very surprised.But YES ,kkk is still active, mostly north of Atlanta.

I'm sorry to hear this but surely there aren't many in attendance.

When things pick up again I think they will find out that times have changed.

Chattanooga is on the move and it is going to bring the area into the 21 Century. If I ever moved North I would love to live near the river. They have an area that can become the next VA Highlands and the Riverwalk is incredible.
