Columbus is winning?I never really heard much about Columbus's problems.I though since consolidation they were doing fairly well.Jack Ellis was a big disappointment.Mayor Reichart seems to be doing well.He has his hands cut out for him with the City Council though. To bad because Macon has so much potential.I'd say even more so than any of the other cities after Savannah. This mainly to do with Macon's proximity to Atlanta and the interstates.

I don't think the 2nd tier cities will ever catch Metro Augusta in population, wealth, etc. Savannah has had the best downtown for years between the second tier cities. Macon has had two interstates and been 1 hour to Atlanta for years. Yet Metro Columbus, Savannah, and Macon continue to gain less people than Metro Augusta ever year.
If Macon can get rail to hurry and be built. About 5 five years before the others then maybe. But there is suppose to be a branch going into Savannah and Augusta too. Their is a rail for Columbus also planned for the future.
We have to see the 2010 census. To check out the stats.

It doesn't have near the problems as the other cities. Our government in one that other cities look to. It's the same person voting, just on multiple names, it's so obvious.

I would say Columbus has one of the more effective local governments in the state. You never hear about fighting between city leaders in council meetings or negative things about the city's government. Columbus has a very hardworking Mayor who is trying to improve life for everyone and focusing on increasing public safety in the city by hiring one hundred new police officers. Also the city in conjunction with Fort Benning and the Valley Partnership are working to prepare for the substantial growth that will affect not only Columbus but the entire Vally region. The Columbus Consolidated Government not only works to helps improve life in City of Columbus, but the whole region as a whole.

Actually you may be right about the "voting" That would make sense.I have never lived in Columbus but frequent there at least twice a year to see family or go to the Fountain City Classic Football Game.Sanford Bishop a good friend of my parents and is an Alumni of my Alma Marta(or is Mata, spell check not working). He is well liked by most people in Columbus area of all races. If it were that bad im sure I would have heard more form those in the know as I like to be kept abreast of political matters throughout the state.

Dumb black people and Dumb white people are whats keeping Macon back.Savannah too,at least more so in the past than perhaps now. There is also to much class war Savannah. There needs to be more to get people out of poverty and educational under achievement .To much of the have against the have nots.Crime is not gonna get better until they address this realistically However Savannah seems to finally beginning to realize that it can be more than what it is.The rebuilding of its long forgotten squares that were are apart of Olgelthorpe's original design in 1733,building of Savannah River Landing( a real live work play community sans Atlantic Station but smaller.I see Savannah has the potential to be like D.C. due to its low rise buildings and pedestrian friendly access. Now all they need is to bring the streetcars back and implementmaybe even heavy rail or at least some form of light rail.

for right Macon is the only 2nd tier city right with the most focus on Rail...Ga proposed a commuter from ATL to Macon and the Feds also proposed the high speed line with a stop in Macon.....

Yes I know but its not quite the same.Hence that is the problem with Macon. The new and old establishment pretty much are trying to escape Macon's urban center. If you build it some will come but its generic. It lacks character because its almost creating something out o a petri dish. Its nice but it might as well be in the middle of a corn field.People rather run away and move to North Macon because its has a cache' name or is associated with "upscale".Its just serving to divide those that have MUCH vs those who have little.I have never seem so much snobbery as I do there. Its among the black and white people who act this way.I can't say I blame people as Macon as had some absolutely terrible elected leadership. No progressive ideas at all. Those who dare to dream get stuck powerless by people who are more concerned with getting re elected than doing the job they were elected to do.The blacks are more concerned with keeping power more than getting someone decent and progressive and the whites are running away to N.Macon and doing there best to create an air of "gloom and doom" about anything that has to do with downtown Macon.Pathetic, just pathetic. The only reason downtown looks nice is because of a few dedicated people with vision who are doing there best to build bridges and partnerships without themselves getting hit with mud in the face. However no one is moving downtown,at least not in signifigant numbers.
So no ,that place is nice but im not impressed.Give me something along the Ocmulgee River.Such a wasted opportunity. So much talk but little action.
