I agree.. I have never heard of any major political scandals coming out of Columbus. It also doesn't seem to have the reputation for racially divisive politcis of some of the other georgia cities. I am impressed at how Columbus manages to get things done. They have a relatively new civic center, a convention center and a performing arts center. In Augusta, we still can't get any of these things built because of political bickering. I have heard racial politics are pretty bad in Savannah too, though I am less familiar with their problems.

Try to make it short and unconfusing. We had a corrupt city government. The mayor and two council members were voted out, and replaces with new people The new mayor won over 2/3 of votes. The new mayor started uncovering the corruption, under the table paying, illegal activities, etc. The new mayor requested an audit, but the council members vetoed it knowing they too would go down. One council member from the new administration resigned; couldn't take the bickering and junk. One council member gets caught using city trash cans to dump personal trash, the new mayor decides to press charges; well he gets threatened several times so decides not to pursue the charges (btw the police are on the corrupted side). So as the corrupt side tried to regain control everything the new mayor tried to get passed (pay city bills etc) the corrupt side vetoed any motions literally shutting the city down. (The city attorney is also on the corrupt side). So finally the new mayor resigns and we are left without a mayor and two council seats. Anywho, the left over council members called the old mayor up and old council members up and now we are back with the "old administration" regardless of public protest!! Hope that made since.

P.S. One of the council members family members are always in trouble, this council member was caught bribing police into not locking the family member up, the family member was arrested and immediately released. Bribery charges didn't get no farther. Its like everyone around here are all connected in this big corrupt mess!!

If you need better details, I'll be glad to clarify.

What preparations?
The city has not done anything in prep for BRAC because the city essentially is nearly broke.
The reason you don't hear about fighting etc is because it is done during closed sessions not on public agenda.(makes sense for obvious reasons)
Ask Glenn,Skip or Ms Woodson.

The Columbus City Council is doing a super job. Do they have disagreements? Well the last time I checked they were all humans, not preprogrammed robots. The most important thing is that the city keep progressing forward. And make no mistake about it, the city of Columbus and this whole area has been very progressive.

I know know Glenn, you have no clue what you are talking about. I have coffee with him every now and then at Starbucks by Columbus Park.
