Floridians
Thank you! Hope you're not getting so many that the prices go up! Actually, many people down here aren't too warm and friendly...sorta like Nu Yawk where many came from. Any CB-ers up that-a-way?

Moving to Ga
Yes, I'm afraid prices are going up. We are trying to sell our lake house on Lake Sinclair. We are getting out of the lake business. It is our 2nd home. We are getting ready to retire, health issues....etc. I'm sure it is alot cheaper than living in FL though. I use to dream of living in FL.. No more... I like good old Middle Ga now! I hear the Hurricane season is suppose to be as bad or worse than last yr.

I am moving to Cartersville Area from Florida. Tired of high real estate prices and rents. My husband will be looking for a job up there he is in management.
I work at home and can work anywhere. Any suggestions of good places to find a job for my hubby? Also anyone here from the Cartersville area? Any info would be great.

Jobs
We plan to be within 30 miles or so of Dublin and, altho my husband is retired, I will be working a few more years. Have you any security companies up there? I've worked at Wackenhut for more than 5 years.

where is a "safe area" or should I say safer than other areas?? I want a small town like Valdosta,or even smaller, want to live 'country subdivision' type .but w/in 15 minutes of super walmart/grocery stores/ fast food/ churches etc. LOL I want to buy a mobile home..or get one in Fla and move it to GA..... condos are too much money for a fixed income... looking for cheap lot rent in a 'senior type' park/subdivsion..No pool needed..just a place to park a mobile. . Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all
D.

Georgia is especially good at having stuff about its cities and towns written up online. Get a map and list some place names which are possible. Then Google them for crime stats, income per capita, demographic breakdown. If an area has the type/size population you want, try REMOVED for listings in that area. The only thing left after that is to find a local who can/will tell you the truth about the ambience of the area. For example, I lived in a small town in TN years ago. I would rate their crime as a 1, (1 being low and 10 is super) their educational system as a 2-3 (poor), cost of living 10, (super) size of population 10, (low, and that's terrific) friendliness of local businessmen 10, competance of local repair people 2 (not proficient), socialibility of town residents 1-2 (most socialize with their cousins.....whom they also marry.)

Hi Rebel,
We are almost in the same boat, more like on the same current. My better half and I have decided to move this summer to GA, but only for the simple fact that we can't afford a nice decent sized house down here. We live in the Westchester/Kendall area, and the prices are rediculous. So we decided that it's time to cut all ties and just go. We have three children which we would like to raise in a more slower paced environment, and not to mention we would love a backyard. I would love it if you could give your opinion and or thoughts on some areas that you have looked into, because I don't even know where to begin.

Middle GA
Dublin, and Milledgeville areas are nice. Milledgeville has Lake Sinclair, we have a place on the lake, but we live in Dublin. We were going to retire on our place at the lake, but... things change. Anyway we have our lakehouse up for sale and our house in Dublin will be on the market soon. (in about 4 or 5 mos). We will be building on Green Acres Golf course in Dexter, near Dublin.
Dexter is nice too! VERY Small Town but growing!

I'll be joining you...
Hey Rebel...
I'll be moving to Dublin in about two weeks. My fiance lives there, and it makes more sense for me to relocate. It's going to be interesting, as I'm coming from Houston... cuuuulture shock. heh.
Hate to tell ya, but Dublin, unless there's some way I'm not aware of, is about three to three and a half hours from Atlanta (going down 75 to Macon, and out 16 to Dublin). I can tell you that, from my visits there, it appears to be a pretty nice town, and has everything you'd really need. If what you're looking for isn't there, then it'll be a little ways away in Vidallia, and the big stuff is about 45 min away in Macon.
So, have you made it to Dublin yet? If so, I'll see you there.
-Eric
