Hey there. I grew up in North Carolina, Selma to be exact. Between being a kid, then going to college, then entering the rat race, then spending some time in Texas, I just never spent enough time discovering the neighboring states enough. Now we are back to North Carolina, this time in Apex, and I am now semi-retired looking to enjoy things more than just work. It's time to explore more and have fun. We would like to drive to Georgia, stay overnight and drive back. What are some suggestions for things to see and do in your great state in such a short period of time? It doesn't have to be the classic stuff that tourists would do.

Thanks,

Brian

You could visit Covington, were about 35 miles east of Atlanta and if you come on July 21st you could see some TV stars because the CW network is about to start filming their new teen drama "Vampire Diaries" on our town square on this date.

You could visit a couple of the 'restricted' islands on the GA coast:

Sapelo Island is accessible by ferry, but you need to reserve a seat or sign up for a tour. The island is very unspoiled and has a community (Hog Hammock) that is populated by descendents of the slaves that worked the island's planatations.

Cumberland Island is also accessible only by ferry. It's an amazing place, and also very unspoiled, with dunes so large that they are easily seen from 25 miles away on neighboring Jekyll Island. If you are a hiker, explorer of a camper, Cumberland is a 'must-see'.
